Dear Christian Braun FHG,
Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.
Unfortunately, your IT team is correct. As of now, Microsoft Teams does not support directly converting a chat group into a team or channel while retaining the chat history. Please see Is it possible to create a team from a group chat? - Microsoft Community Hub and Add Group Chat As A Channel - Microsoft Community Hub.
However, there are a few workarounds you can consider:
- Create a New Team and Add Members:
- Pin the Chat Group:
- Rename the chat group to reflect the project name.
- Pin the chat group to the top of your chat list for easy access.
- This way, you can continue using the chat group for discussions while using the new team for file sharing and other collaborative tasks.
- Copy Important Information:
- Manually copy and paste important messages or files from the chat group to the new team or channel.
- This ensures that critical information is not lost and is accessible to all team members.
While these workarounds are not perfect, they can help you transition from a chat group to a team without losing important information. Hopefully, Microsoft will introduce a feature to directly convert chat groups to teams in the future.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
