I've been using the new Outlook preview (the one you enable by toggling the "Try the new Outlook" switch in the main Outlook app for Windows) and I love it. It's so much faster than the main version.
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago I noticed that the inbox had stopped updating automatically. I still get notifications that new messages have arrived, and the icon in the task bar indicates that I have unread messages, but when I look at the Outlook window the inbox shows no new messages. I have to click on a different folder and back to the inbox for it to refresh and show the new emails.
Obviously this make the product basically unusable - I can't afford to risk missing important emails - so I keep switching back to the main Outlook app, each time giving feedback about the problem. Every week or so I switch back to the new Outlook in the hope that the issue has been fixed, but so far it hasn't.
This seems like such a fundamental problem that I can't believe it hasn't been fixed, which makes me wonder whether I'm alone in having this issue. I'm using a work account with Outlook and, to be clear, I don't experience the same issue when I'm using the main Outlook app.

The refresh problem with "Show email as individual messages" seems to be corrected in 1.2023.418.200 .
Method A: Doesn't pertain to New Outlook and should be N/A anyway, but the closest equivalent is in Settings/Mail/Layout
Method B: Longshot in the extreme
Method C: Doesn't pertain to New Outlook (there is no way to update it short of running it and waiting)
Question for OP. Since this sounds like a bug, what version do you have? You can find it in Settings/General/About
I'm looking at:
Microsoft Outlook Version 1.2023.411.200 (Production).
Client Version is 20230414002.01
I am seeing it happen in that version, which is quite new (a few days ago), but I'm pretty sure this didn't happen before. Not sure though since I don't use New Outlook regularly yet. Updates come out roughly weekly.
BTW, in terms of switching back to old Outlook, in case you didn't know, you don't have to flip the switch to do that: it's still there and can be used. They can both even be run at the same time.
Update:
The culprit for me was in Settings/Mail/Layout: in Message Organization don't have it on "Show email as individual messages"
Same with me. Definitely not fixed. And it's a known issue.
My version is:
Client: 20230407001.14 .
Production: 1.2023.411.200
Checked and confirmed. Thank you.
Good to hear those results.
I should add that when I submitted this issue via the app yesterday, after doing so (it would have made more sense before) the app came back with a list of what it thought might be relevant known issues. This new message refresh issue was one of them, though oddly the note mentioned nothing about the Message Organization setting and so made it sound like it was an issue with no workaround short of clicking into another folder and then back again. In any case, Microsoft has known about it and presumably will have a fix shortly.
