A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Just updated to Sonoma 14.2 (23C63) and the issue appears resolved. I can see tabs and margins on the ruler again.

I chatted with a Microsoft Tech this morning (our chat # was 7028642884). I don't know how to get back in touch with her (Nina)... The problem I initially had, and still do, even after all the steps she had me take, is that the small indicators on the ruler in Word are completely missing. There are no margin indicators and no tab indicators, which are critical for editing and formatting documents. I can add tabs, selecting the sort of tab I want and dragging it to the ruler, but no indicators appear where I dropped them, so I can't move them or change them (well, I can change them in the Tabs pop-up window but that's the long way around what was a simple step). I can change the margins for the whole document using the Margins popup window but it's really tough to change the margins for an individual paragraph without being able to grab and slide those small indicators. They are just completely missing.
Here's what she had me do: Delete Word and reinstall it. Didn't help. Delete the entirety of Office including my license, reboot, reinstall and relicense. Didn't help. Start up in Safe Mode, Didn't help. I don't know what else to do other than report this to you and Apple as a bug.
I'm working on an M1 Max MacBook Pro, running Sonoma 14.2, public beta 4, just installed this morning, and that's clearly the source of the bug.

Of course; that's why I'm reporting it, and have done so as well on both Apple and Microsoft's reporting sites. I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the issue or had ideas about fixing it. It was suggested I should have Word 16.81, which, as it turns out, is the beta version, and I only installed it to see if it fixed the problem. It didn't. Here's hoping the developers find the bug!
Unfortunately since you have elected to adopt Beta versions of both macOS & Office there really is nothing more anyone here can do. That's the risk one accepts when opting ot install pre-release product.
This obviously is a compatibility issue which needs to be addressed at the developer level. You need to submit the issue to both Microsoft & Apple through the channels provided for those participating in their respective beta testing programs.
Yes, you understand the issue well. I want to add that in more exploring with Microsoft Auto Update that it was not controlling the versions of Word, PowerPoint and Excel I had previously downloaded from the Apple Store. So again, I did a complete deletion of all Microsoft Office files, and deleted my license as well. All of the folders and folders you mention, Mia, were deleted as well. After a reboot, I reinstalled Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with a couple of other Office 365 Apps. This time, I saw that the version number for the three apps had increased to 16.80! I opened Word and unfortunately the issue remains. I then selected Beta in Auto Update, and there is the 16.81 version!! It is in beta, but I installed it anyway and it seems to work in all respects, except for this one issue with the Ruler--sadly, that problem remains even in this version.... I've done a screen shot of the problem, and it's here in this post, I hope. As you can see, the Ruler is selected in View, but there are no margin or tab indicators on the ruler....even though, in fact, there are several tabs placed in the selected paragraph!
To update this further, the margin and tab indicators are ALSO MISSING in PowerPoint's Text Boxes.
