To select and then re-color a shape that has been inserted by PowerPoint Designer, you first need to turn on the Selection Pane, which shows a list of all the items on the current slide. To do so:
- Select your slide.
- In the “Tell me what you want to do” box above the ribbon, type “Selection Pane”.
- A menu of choices appears below the box; choose the first option, “Display the Selection Pane”.
- In the Selection Pane on the right side of the window, all the items on the slide are listed. The object that you want to re-color is likely named “FreeForm #”.
- Select the name of that free-form shape in the list. Then you can use the Drawing Tools Format tab on the ribbon to change the color of that shape.
