MS Teams -Students accessing assignments after the close date

Hi, I have a teacher in my building assigning word docs and other files as assessments in teams. They have set a due date and close date for the same day and time, thus not allowing for late turn ins. Today a student was able to access the assignment and edit their work after the close date had passed. I have no idea why they were able to access these.

The comment below was taken from the forum whose source is below for consultation, ok

"This is already possible on a per-file basis, it's just not the most intuitive. Open the file, and from the Edit drop down choose Edit in Word Online (Not edit in Teams!) - From there, click Share. At the top of the share window there are three dots, click that and select Manage Access. One of the options should be "Team Name Members" which defaults to Can edit. Change that to view only.

You can also click Open in SharePoint on the main file list and change the access through there by selecting a file, clicking the (i) icon and clicking Manage Access.

I'll still vote for this idea though because it would definitely be easier to either have one global setting for the whole Files tab, or at very least be able to change the default, or have the ability to select multiple files and change the permisssion on them all at once.

Failing that, maybe split it into two tabs for "Class" teams. One tab for Files that are editable for everyone, a second tab, maybe "Resources" that are only editable by teachers?"

    Good morning

So this does not address my problem at all. The students are not "un-turning" the assignment in, they are going to the resource from the assignment, clicking to open it and making edits in the resource without changing the turn in status at all. They should not be able to edit this resource.

    Hello, Timothy

I am Igor, an Independent Advisor and I will be glad to help you with this question.

If you were able to complete your assignment after the timeline ends, most likely your teacher or the Teams admin for education has set the policy to allow late assignments:

Turn in late if you’re turning in your assignment after the due date, but your teacher has allowed late turn-ins or asked for a revision.

Hello and thank you for getting back to me. I think there is some confusion and in my haste, i mislead you. I am the staff developer, the admin. The teacher complained that students are still working on MS Word assignments that are past due when assigned in teams.

The teacher has a due date and a close date and they are the same, therefor no late submissions are accepted. This student seems to be able to work with their assignment through teams and it is changing the document they earlier turned in using the turn in button in teams.

    Thank you
