Hi. I'm having an issue with Teams Apply Background Effects being greyed out on my call. Using desktop app Windows 10 S mode. Does S mode have functionality limitations with Teams, and is the desktop version different than the web version? Thank you.

Hello, I am Thomas, an independent advisor and I will be glad to help you today.

I am very sorry that you are having this issue. Have you tried to uninstall the current version of MS teams and install the lastest? are you having the same issue with the web version?

If So, First of all, I suggest leaving the S mode following this procedure :

To increase security and performance, Windows 10 in S mode runs only apps from the Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to permanently switch out of S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode, but you won't be able to turn it back on. If you're blocked from switching and your device belongs to an organization, check with your administrator. Your organization can choose to keep all devices in S mode.

On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

Find the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, then select the Go to the Store link.

Note: Don't select the link under Upgrade your edition of Windows. That's a different process that will keep you in S mode.

On the page that appears in the Microsoft Store (Switch out of S mode or a similar page), select the Get button. After you confirm this action, you'll be able to install apps from outside the Microsoft Store.

    Hi stevez1_,

    Thank you for your post.

Am a fellow Teams user trying to help.

Check if this issue is also present using the Teams web at https://teams.microsoft.com.

If so, please try logging out of Teams from all your devices, then please restart your devices and finally try to log back to see if the button is back.

If this doesn’t help, you may try resetting your Microsoft Teams app if it helps:

Exit Microsoft Teams app (Check out if it appears in the Windows toolbar and closes it).

Copy and paste the following path in File Explorer: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams

Delete all contents in that folder (You may make a backup somewhere if you desire)

    Restart Microsoft Teams.

    Sign in and try again

If the issue still persists, please try to contact your Teams admin for further checking.

Hope this helps. Looking forward to your response.

    Regards,
