How to provide permission to the user to access only one column in the created list?

Hi There,

Am new to Microsoft Lists and trying to implement the library management system. Have prepared a list to show the book details using the 'From Excel' list. Need to restrict the permission based on the user role(admin, client).

For example, If a user needs to request a book, there might be a column to access for the user to send a request for the desired book. So that, an admin will get notified for the request and take action.

Similarly, from the list i created, i need to provide permission to the user to access only one column. The rest of the column can only be for view purposes.

Note: As i searched so far i found we can set permission like view, view and edit, and stop sharing the list based on the roles of Members, Owners, and Visitors.

Could anyone please guide me on how to allow permission for one column alone?

Thanks in advance !!!

Regards,

Vadivel

Dear Vadivel,

First, we appreciate your efforts in this case. We understand that you want to restrict users from editing certain columns in SharePoint online.

As you mentioned, we can set view, view and edit permissions to users so that owner can control how they can do based on the permission. If they have Read permission, this user won’t have any higher rights to edit. In addition, Permissions are set on the list, library or site level, not any lower to things like columns or views.

Your understanding is highly appreciated. You are welcome to contact us if you have any further questions, we will try our best to assist. Have a nice day! 😊

Best Regards,

Ivy

Is there a way to set permissions on things like columns or views? What would be the workaround? Is there an add-in or extension that could be used to do the trick?
