Surface Headphones 2 and Teams

I recently purchased a set of Surface Headphones 2 for use with my work from home set up. I'm trying to get them set up to use with Microsoft Teams and VOiP but noticed a serious issue, it won't use both the microphone and the speakers at the same time. At best, I can set Teams to use the headphone speakers and my laptop's built in microphone but this only lasts for about 5-10 minutes before it crashes and I can't get any audio to work at all. This is an astonishing issue and I have to believe I've set them up incorrectly.

  • I am running Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1 (work computer, I don't have much choice here)
  • I have attempted to set the Surface Headphones 2 as the default communications device however doing so only seems to get the microphone to work (IE: people can hear me but I can't hear them.)
  • I have attempted to set the Surface Headphones 2 as the audio device in Teams, but again only the microphone seems to work
  • As for just media listening they work fine, I'm using them to listen to Youtube on my laptop everyday. I have them connected through Bluetooth and grab my USB headset when a call comes through.

Please help me diagnose this, I spent a good amount of money on these headphones for my work from home set up and I can't believe they are having this issue. I also posted the question over in the Surface forums. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/surface-headphones-2-and-voip-calling/ddf2431f-7af3-4667-a83b-01f22833adc4

    Hello JeffreyFox,

Thanks for your post here and apologies for all inconvenience.

After doing lots of researches, I truly understand your feelings but Surface Headphones 2 is not certified. Here are the Teams certified devices for your reference: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/across-devices/devices.

Besides, you can also try using Teams Web App to join meeting and check whether the headphone works well.

Given your situation, we recommend you kindly give your feedback and share your experience via our UserVoice Service. Every customer’s voice is important to us. The related engineers will design or upgrade features referring to customers’ feedback and your ideas will help us to make our product and features better for you.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support for our products and services, and we hope the Surface Headphones 2 can be added into Teams certified device list in the near future.

    Regards,

    Seven

    Hi Sven,

I'm experiencing issues as well... My MS Headphones 2 keep losing Mic connection with Teams. Sometimes it's working for hours without any issue and then out of a sudden, when joining the next call, the mic is not working.

With all due respect, but this is not acceptable using microsoft products and microsoft software and you're saying it's not a certified device?

I starting to regret buying the MS products.

    Thanks

    Michael

I am having the same issue.  I can hear audio but it sounds like an alien is talking.

I was able to solve the problem by activating the "Hands-Free AG Audio" mode of the headphones in the Windows settings and then selecting it as "Speaker" for Microsoft teams. For the microphone I also selected the "Hands-Free AG Audio".

The interface is from german, but here is the screenshot of how it looks like on my computer:
