Teams does not close on exit after recent update

I have the option in settings set to close team when exiting (instead of minimizing to the tray) and this has been working fine for over a year at least. With one of the recent updates this no longer works. After closing you can still see Teams in the Task Manager. In addition to this, I have to manually force close the app before it will open again. This is a huge pain and should be a super high priority bug. If a user doesn't know how to use Task Manager they would be stuck unable to reopen, and forced to restart.

Not only does the application remain running after 'closing', despite the options we have chosen, but we can't actually get back into the application without first killing it.

    It's a bug.

    Acknowledge it, Microsoft, please.

Then fix it and we can all move on with our lives.

    Nik,

I don't think you understood the question, I have the same issue as Barry, and it's a bit hard to explain.  Basically, when you restart you computer, Teams is running in the background. It doesn't automatically open, and you can't manually open it (since it is already technically "open").  Like Barry mentioned, you have to open the Task Manager and "end the process". Only after that, you can re-open Teams.

This is not only annoying, but for someone who doesn't think to look at their Task Manger everytime, it makes Teams useless/dead.

    Thanks for any solutions!

Agreed. This is not a duplicate even, because this thread mentions an issue that is not mentioned in the other thread. This separate issue is as follows:

If Teams is ... dismissed? I guess we have to use that word?... by hitting the X, it can no longer be launched again using the Taskbar icon or the Start Menu icon or the Tray icon.  The only way to launch it is to right-click Quit (or Task Kill), then use the Taskbar icon or Start Menu icon.

The above behavior happens when "run in background" is UNchecked.

[Sigh.] So we're 5 months on and still no sign of even an acknowledgment from Microsoft that this is a bug. So disappointing. What exactly is the point of this forum, Microsoft?

The problem is with the settings option: "On close, keep the application running"

If you turn that off, the expectation is that closing the app using the [X] in the Title Bar will actually close the application (not minimize it to system tray).

But it doesn't fully close the application. It closes the GUI window, but leaves the system tray icon. And that seems to prevent you from being able to re-launch the application.

That is definitely not intended behavior, and needs to be fixed.
