Poor Screen Share Quality on Teams for Mac (more than two meeting participants)

I have a brand new MacBook Pro with an Apple M1 Pro, running macOS Monterey 12.2.1.

When in meetings with more than two participants, incoming screen share quality is horribly pixelated. Text is consistently blurry and difficult to read. There don’t appear to be any bandwidth issues and the problem is consistent when connected to different networks. Other members in these meetings do not report any screen share issues.

Incoming screen sharing quality is fine in meetings of only 2 participants.

I have tried disabling and re-enabling GPU acceleration and even completely removing and reinstalling Teams, to no avail.

On the same device, when connecting to meetings using Teams through the Edge web browser, I do not experience the same issue.

To summarise:

Client Number of Meeting Participants Incoming Screen Share Quality
Teams for Mac (1.5.00.4683) 2 OK
Teams for Mac (1.5.00.4683) 3+ Terrible
Teams for Web (MS Edge) 2 OK
Teams for Web (MS Edge) 3+ OK

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

yes. i believe this happens to every Mac. and ALL C-LEVELs here are using macbooks. whenever theres important meeting or townhall their cameras look like kids drawings. it has nothing to do bandwidth. PUT AN OPTION WHERE WE CAN CHOOSE WHAT VIDEO QUALITY WE WANT. Big company small brain.

The problem appears to have resolved itself when upgrading to macOS 12.3.1.

    Hi JBatp,

    Greetings

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community Forum.

I understand the poor screen share quality is only happening with Teams App and not the web. in this case I would advise you clear the Teams cache and observe the result.

Clear teams cache on a Mac:

    1. Right-click the Microsoft Teams icon in your dock, then click Quit.
    2. Open Finder, then click Go and select Go to Folder.
    3. Copy and paste the following into the Go to Folder box, then click Go: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft
    4. Right Click on the Teams folder and select Move to Trash.
    5. Click on the magnifying glass in the upper-righthand corner of your screen to open Spotlight Search.
    6. Enter “Keychain” and select Keychain Access.
    7. Within Keychain Access, search for “Microsoft Teams” and locate the “Microsoft Teams Identities Cache” entry.
    8. Right-click to delete the entry and then close Keychain Access.
    9. Now Relaunch Microsoft Teams and your cache is officially cleared!

    Let us know the result.

    Kind regards,

    Simbarashe
