Bullet list formatting in Teams chats started working differently.

In a private message to a user in teams, if you start a bulleted list by typing "1.", the enter key no longer moves to the next bulleted list item. Instead it sends the message. If you use shift-enter then it moves to the next line without continuing the bulleted list. This is different than previous behavior as enter used to just move to the next bulleted list item and that behavior pattern is how it still works both in teams channel discussions or if you open the formatting window. I've confirmed this behavior on both the teams app and the teams website app.

Was this an intended change? I think it started happening soon before thanksgiving.

Bulleted lists worked very well before and behaved similar to other MS text box's that allowed bullets (and most other companies). A note: the automatic part for the first one still works! "<space" produces the bullet the same way as always... the <enter> no longer creates a new item, but posts the message.

Please consider this as a bug, regress what broke it, and add this use case to future regression. It should remain working the faster, cleaner, more consistent way.

If this is not possible, please clarify the benefit to the user. Will Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint get this change as well?

This is also impacting everyone in my organization as well. It is extremely annoying.

This behavior undesirably changed recently on Teams.

Previously, when typing a message, starting a bulleted list made the 'Enter' key create a new bulleted line, like this:

    1. typing something, then I'll press enter:
    2. and it goes here. The send this message, we had to press enter thrice.

Now, we need to use "format", also named 'Expand Compose Box' in the shortcuts.

The annoying aspect of the Ctrl-Shift-X shortcut to open the compose box is its close proximity to Ctrl-Shift-C, which automatically audio calls the current group without any way to cancel it before it is too late.

Try doing it by mistake in a 37 person group chat and immediately leave the call since you started it by mistake: everyone else will join an 'empty' call, all wondering who or why they were summoned by someone not even present. Not very interesting situation.

Please revert this change so that hitting enter when in a list doesnt submit the message but adds another list item.

This has been happening for months for us also. I can't believe Microsoft is saying they cannot reproduce the problem.

    Steps:

In a chat, type some message. Hit enter to go to a new line. Type an asterisk and a space to start a bulleted list. Type whatever you want for the first list item. Hit the Enter key and message is sent. Previously, when you hit the Enter key, it took you to the next bullet in the list.

However, if you're going to fix this, please fix it properly:

Previously, if you were *not* in a bulleted list and hit the Enter key, the message sent, but if you were in a bulleted list and hit the Enter key, it went to the next line/bullet.

If you were *not* in a bullet list and *did* want to move to a new line before sending the message, you would have to hold Shift+Enter.

This means that to insert a new line in your new message you had to remember which of two different keyboard combinations to use, depending on context:

    * Type Shift+Enter if not in a bullet list
    * Otherwise just type Enter if in a bullet list

This is not great usability guys.

    My preference would be:

To insert a new line, just press Enter - exactly as I am doing in this field to type this message; exactly as I would do if I was in MS Word. This should be the case regardless of whether I am in a bullet list or not.

If you want a keyboard shortcut to *send* the message - *then* you should use Shift+Enter.

Example of attempt to just create a bullet list at present (and for past several months):
