Notifications with native "Mac Notification Style" aren't being displayed

Native (Mac) Notification Style Feature

A while ago the ability to select Mac notification styles was added to Teams. Since then I have been using this feature to have native macOS notifications for Teams (finally). The notifications now follow my notification settings set in macOS System Preferences. They appear as the banner style when I receive a message and tuck themselves into notification centre where I can access them later.

The Problem

Since updating to macOS 12 notifications from Teams are no longer shown at the time a message is delivered. The notification sound still works, and still shows up in notification centre. But the notifications no longer show up on the screen at the time they are delivered.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I Have Tried

  • Turning off any/all Focus modes completely
  • Ensuring that "Microsoft Teams" is added to the "Allowed Notifications From" list for my Focus modes
  • Testing notifications from other apps (they are delivered normally and don't have this problem)
  • Making sure all macOS System Preference notification settings are setup correctly:
    • "Allow Notifications": true
    • "Notification Style": "Banner"
    • "Show notifications on lock screen": true
    • "Show in Notification Center": true
    • "Badge app icon": true
    • "Play sound for notifications": true
    • "Show previews": "when unlocked (default)"
    • "Notification grouping": "automatic"
  • Changing the Notification Style from "Banner" to "Alert" in macOS System Preference (same issue still occurs)

Workaround

The only way around this issue is to change the notification style setting in Teams from "Mac" back to "Teams built-in". This style of notification will appear on the screen when I receive a message, but the notifications no longer show in Notification Centre or follow any of the rules for notifications like Do Not Disturb etc. (basically ruins the whole point of being able to use native notifications)

Version

macOS: 12.1

Teams: 1.4.00.29478

For anyone else with this issue:

I ended up getting through to a Microsoft Support Ambassador who confirmed that this issue is indeed a bug and has reported it as such. Hopefully it can be fixed soon.

UPDATE: 2022-04-07

I just noticed this issue has been fixed! It must have been in some recent update to Microsoft Teams, but I'm not sure which one exactly.

Mac style notifications are working now with Apple's focus modes.

    Hi Ankita,

I've tried to reinstall Teams and still experience the same issue. I'm not able to report it from Teams myself, so I will contact someone who is an admin so they can report it.

    Thanks!

    Hello 7xDan,

Good day to you and appreciate your efforts for this issue.

Regarding your issue, you may try to reinstall Teams app and then check if you found any difference. If still same issue you need to report this issue from Teams app side. For this, kindly open Teams app > go to Help (available at the left bottom side of the screen) > select Report a problem. If you are not able to report it, kindly contact your admin and ask him to report this issue. At this point, your kind co-operation will be highly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your precious time. Stay safe and healthy.
