Microsoft Teams Status - Desktop and Mobile

I have recently received Microsoft Teams access as part of my Office pack.

I noticed that with the mobile app logged in, the status is constantly showing "Available" even when i am not active.

This means anyone looking for me would believe that i am available.

Is there no way to set it to show as away or at least a separate status that states "mobile" when we are not active on the desktop App of teams?

It is highly annoying to have to amend the status manually.

This is actually entirely wrong at least now - 2/3/22

My Cell phone is the only device that seems to dictate what my Teams Status is......

Point and Case - I am actively working in Teams on my computer and it says I am "away," again I am actively working and communicating with my teams within teams on my computer. This even has done this while in a virtual meeting.....

The only time that my status shows, "Available," is when I am engaging with teams on my cell phone. If I do not engage with my teams app on my phone EVERY 5 min then it sets my status to "Away," again even when I am actively working and chatting in teams on my computer.

This is quite frankly pretty unacceptable in today's world.... With more and more people working remotely some companies use the status as an indicator if you are working or not.... Getting in trouble for something you have no control over and cannot change is quite frustrating especially when they are saying you are not working when in fact I am actively working in teams on my computer. Having to engage on my cell phone every 5 min is NOT and acceptable answer to this issue IMO.

I know that you are not necessarily employed by Microsoft - None of this is directed at you, I am just quite frustrated with the issue and needed to vocalize it.

I had the issue talked about here where my phone kept my status at Away even when I was working on my computer with Teams open. I believe it was doing this because I wasn't using my phone, so the Teams app in my phone was overriding my status. To fix this, I signed out and then back into Teams on my computer only, and then Teams showed me as Available. When I lock my computer, it automatically shows me Away like it should.

Also, you can manually set your status, to clear this and have Teams manage your status, you need to click your status (available, away, etc.) and then select Reset status.

I hope this helps! I was happy to figure out this fix!

Hi, hope you're doing well. I’m Ian, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. I’m happy to help answer your questions.

I'm sorry to hear about this issue.

I would advice that you change your status in mobile to "Away" or you can set a "Status Message" instead.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you need anything else.

    Regards,

    Ian

    I have this same issue

My MS teams on mobile supersedes my activity/status on desktop.

I can be actively using MS Teams on the desktop however it shows me as away as my phone has locked and is inactive

When working from home this can easily make me look like I am unavailable/away when in fact I am actually sat at my desktop actively using MS teams

The desktop app will not then allow me to manually change my status.

Reading some of the comments that say they status between desktop and mobile are not dependent to each other does not make sense as to any external viewer you only have 1 status so they must be connected.

I had similar but kind of the opposite issue: suddenly my Teams desktop App seems to take the Status from my Mobile App, so when I am working on my laptop and the phone is idle, even when I was in a meeting on my desktop Teams app, it constantly shows "Away". When it is this way, I cannot manually change it, it only changes when I do something with my phone...

I even tried solving the issue by logging out from my mobile app, but it just ended up giving me logged out status on my desktop app, even if I was actively using it...

    All tips welcome!
