When I try to join a teams meeting, I can only launch it in a browser even though I have the client installed.

Whenever I go into a calendar invitation, and click "Join Microsoft Teams Meeting", I get a web page pop up saying "Open URL:msteams", "https://teams.microsoft.com wants to open this application.", with options to "Open URL:msteams" or "Cancel".

Despite the fact that I have teams open (i use the messaging functionality heavily), selecting "Open URL:msteams" does nothing - the box disappears, but the meeting does not start. The screen I'm left with has the options "Download the Windows app", "Continue on this browser" and "Open your Teams App".

If I select "Open your Teams App", nothing happens, and the meeting doesn't start. If I select "Download windows app", the app installs and eventually starts, however it doesn't work for the next meeting, and I can't install the teams app every hour (I tend to be in up to 10 meetings a day).

My work support team had me sign into another laptop, and the meeting "launch" worked from there (I noticed the button said "Open Microsoft Teams" which is different to what I see on my laptop, so we know it's not a profile/security issue.

I have tried uninstalling Teams, and reinstalling it, and this has not resolved the issue.

I can join a meeting via the browser option, but this can't be a long term solution.

Please advise!

2021.05.19 Same here- what was the outcome? -Discovered a week ago by staff.
    On both Edge and Chrome.
Teams program itself works and I can do stuff within teams but trying to use a browser to open a meeting invite into the teams program does nothing.

I do get the button "Open Microsoft Teams" in the browser popup(indicating it can tell the computer does have teams) of "Open Microsoft Teams? https://teams.microsoft.com wants to open this application"

I followed through on some instructions which stated to clear cache and other folders in %appdata%. I uninstalled teams and installed it again after reboot. Still not resolved.

    Same problem here.

Opening my e-mail on my Android phone and clicking on the link brings up the Teams app and I can get into the meeting that way - but not my computer.

    Hi JamesRMC,

Thanks for describing the issue in detail. From your description, the problem doesn’t occur in another laptop, this should not be a service issue. May I know whether you have tried to change your browser? Such as IE or Chrome, is the outcome different? Based on my test, after clicked "Open your Teams app" button, there was a prompt that let me select to open the meeting in Microsoft Teams client, therefore I think the problem might be related to browser. Based on your concern that the prompt information is different in different laptop, maybe it is due to your browser or operation, to further confirm it, please offer me more details of your test, such as operation steps and browser version, screenshots are better.

If problem still exists, may I know whether other members in your team have same issue?

    Kind Regards,

    Betty
