Cannot open Teams meeting in the application

When trying to open a meeting that someone else has booked throught the Teams app (with a link) I get directed to my browser. There I click the "Join on the Teams app" option but get error message: "We couldn't open your Teams app. Join your meeting on the web instead."

How do I get the meeting to open in the app?

(I have tried to use different browsers and restarted my computer.)

Kind Regards,

Amanda

It is INCREDIBLE how terrible, how BAD, how CLUNKY, and CONVOLUTED this app is. How and why businesses use it is beyond any IT savvy person's comprehension.

I'm not computer illiterate, quite the opposite, but this thread... NOTHING here works, your %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams command doesn't even exist! I get an error message from windows when running that.

This is a fresh Windows install, with a fresh Teams install, I've uninstalled it twice, I've installed it from the website, from the MS store... And it WILL. NOT. Open links from browser - or Outlook! Ironically enough - to the app, only on the in-browser app.

It is INFURIATING how bad this app is!

I had the same problem.  Then I downloaded the free version of Teams and it worked fine.

The version from Microsoft 365 is hopeless and buggy.  Useless.

The free version of Teams that you can use as a guest without logging in works fine for joining other people's meetings.

If you click on any Teams link, at the bottom of the screen it says :

    Don’t have the app?

    Download it now

That is the free version that actually works.

    DO NOT LOG IN. EVER.

    Hope that helps.

Hello Amanda, My name is Indhurani, I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I will try my best to assist you.

It looks like you are having trouble opening a Teams meeting in the application.

One possible solution could be to check if the Teams application is properly installed on your device and if it is up to date. You can also try logging out and logging back into your Teams account.

    Update Teams: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/upda...

If that doesn't work, you can try manually opening the Teams application and joining the meeting from there. Open the Teams app and then click on "Calendar" at the left-hand side of the screen. Then, click on the meeting that you are trying to join and click on the "Join" button to join the meeting.

If you are still having trouble, you can try clearing the cache by following the below steps

    1. If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar and then select Quit.
    2. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key +R.
    3. In the Run dialog box, enter %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and then select OK.
    4. Delete all files and folders in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams directory.
    5. Restart Teams.

Finally, try restarting your computer and then opening the meeting in the Teams app. If this still doesn't work, please try to uninstall and reinstall the Teams app.

Hope it will be fixed. Please let me know if you still need further assistance.

    Regards,

    Indhurani
