Sorry, you don't have access v. Access Denied

This is not a question about fixing a fault with access!

The right users are getting access, the wrong ones are not.

It is about the actual error message.

Users trying to access some channel sites get a nice friendly, "Sorry, you don't have access", and a helpful dialogue box where they can request access

The same users, accessing different sites, get an unfriendly, "Access Denied", and an unhelpful comment, "Please ask the site admin to give you access", with no indication who is the site admin

This is happening even with two channel sub-sites based on the same team. I can't see any difference in any of the settings of the two channels or their sites. Any ideas where I should be looking?

Thank you for your help

Guy

    Hi Ahmed,

Thank you for your help but you miss the point. The correct people are getting access and the correct peiple are not gettinf access. The problem is, when people are blocked, they get the wrong message. When peiple are blocked I want them to to get the nice friendly messags that helps them request access. They get that on one site. But on the other site they get an unfriendly, unhelpful message. Why the difference? How do I get the friendly message on all sites?

    Thank you.

    Guy

    Hi Glenn,

The error message is supposed to be customisable. See screen shot below. And, as you will see in my screen shots above - I GET DIFFERENT MESSAGES. SO it very much is customisable. The question is WHERE? Because I have the same settings on two different sites but get two different messages!

Thank you Ahmed but that isn't it. I have two sites, both channel sub-sites of the same Team. They both have, "Allow access requests", toggled to On, but one gives the, "Access Denied", message and the other gives the, "Sorry, you don't have access", message

    Hi Guy,

I'm Ahmed and I am here & happy to help.

Sorry for having this issue with the Access

    • Is it a SharePoint Online issue?
    • All users are affected in the Team? In the Site? In the Org?
    • Are there any patterns or differences in the permissions or settings between the channels/sites that are working correctly and those that are not?

-Have you checked the permissions for each of the sites and channels to ensure that the appropriate users and groups have been granted access?

-Have you tried adding the affected users to the site's Members or Visitors group to see if that resolves the issue?

Please let me know if you need any further assistance!

    Regards,
