Joining as a Guest in another Organisation

Hi

I'm new to setting up Teams - I've just started my own business - and have my own email address - lets call it ******@Mycompany.co.uk.

When I set up my company with microsoft - it gave my company a name of ******@Mycompany456.onmicrosoft.com

PROBLEM

I'm working with another company who want to share info with me via one of their TEAMS sites.

They have added me as a Guest to that channel (as ******@Mycompany.co.uk) and I have received an email from them saying that I've been added to the Team. The e-mail has a link in it to "Open Microsoft Teams"

When I click on the link, Microsoft Teams opens and asks if I want to "Download the App" or use the "web app instead" - I've selected to use the webapp (I'm using a Surface with Edge as the browser)

I expected another window to open that would ask me for an "authorisation code" from the company inviting me - but all I see (eventually) is my own company Teams site

Any idea how to make Teams open the Guest Site?

Thanks

    Hello Richard M,

I am Ibhadighi and I would happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with Microsoft Teams when trying to access a guest team that you were invited to. When you click on the link to open Microsoft Teams, it should prompt you to authenticate with your Azure AD account associated with your work email address (@___.) rather than opening your own company's Teams site.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check your email invitation again: Make sure that the email invitation you received contains the correct link to join the guest team. The link should be in the format of https://teams.microsoft.com/l/team/[TeamName]/[ChannelName]. If the link is incorrect or missing, reach out to the person who invited you and request a corrected link.
    2. Clear cookies and cache: Sometimes, clearing your browser's cookies and cache can resolve issues with authentication. To do this, go to Edge's settings > Privacy & security > Cookies > Clear cookies and saved website data. Then, close and reopen Edge.
    3. Use a different browser: Try accessing the Teams link in a different browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to see if the issue persists. This will help determine whether the problem is specific to Edge.
    4. Disable any VPN software: If you are using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), temporarily disable it and try accessing the Teams link again. Some VPNs may interfere with authentication processes.
    5. Consider creating a separate personal Microsoft account: If you don't already have a personal Microsoft account, consider creating one using a non-work email address. This way, you can sign in to Teams separately from your work account and avoid potential conflicts between your work and personal accounts.

Remember, once you successfully join the guest team, you should be able to switch between teams by clicking on your profile picture in the top right corner of the Teams interface and selecting the desired team from the dropdown menu.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards, Ibhadighi.

    Hi Ibhadighi.

Got to item 3 - used another browser (Chrome) - all worked like a treat

Don't know why I didn't do that before!

    Thanks for your help
