Change or Disable the 5 Minute Idle Time in Teams

I am on our Help Desk call queue in Teams. Sometimes I am preparing a machine for deployment while sitting at my desk, but not moving the mouse at my computer. I'm available to take a call if one comes in, but Teams goes Idle and calls are therefore not routed to me. I'm familiar with the Duration option and the Set a Status Message option to force availability for a period of time, but this has two problems:

  1. it is this extra work every time I'm doing something else at my desk; and even more importantly,
  2. if a call does come in, it does not override that status. So then another call could come in, which I'm unable to answer; meanwhile, there are other support staff that are available, to whom that call should be routed.

How do we disable or change the idle timeout time? Five minutes of inactivity is far too short!

Thank you for the reply. I know you are not Microsoft, but I will reply with a loud BOO!

I've upvoted some of the feature requests. Thank you for that link.

I'd think there must be a registry setting for this. I tried googling, but can't find it. If anyone knows the path to that, then please share. I'm comfortable changing this for myself, and even pushing that change to a group of staff via Intune.

I've been searching for additional resources or information, but it seems that the only solutions currently available involve installing extensions to prevent Teams from going into "Idle" mode.

While these may be a temporary workaround, it would be beneficial if there was a direct solution for this issue within MS Teams itself.

I hope that this will be added in the future.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. I am here to help and provide assistance with any questions or concerns you may have.

Unfortunately, there is no direct change for the idle duration. There are a couple of posts suggesting this change at the MS Teams Feedback Portal: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/s...

An alternative solution could be to use the Call delegation feature in Teams. This feature allows you to forward incoming calls to another number or another person. This way, while you are working on the machine, calls can be routed to another support staff who is available to take the call.

While I understand how this can be frustrating, perhaps in a future update Microsoft would provide the ability to change the idle time.
