Logitech 4K Poor Quality Video In Microsoft Teams Desktop App

I bought a new webcam: Logitech Brio 4K. It looks awful in meetings using the desktop app, the picture is low-quality and blurry. It looks wonderful in the Teams webapp. The picture is crystal clear. Also, the picture quality looks great in Zoom, Discord, etc. The only problem is the Teams desktop app.

How can I get my camera to show high-quality video using the desktop app.

So far I have tried:

  1. Upgrade Logitech Brio 4K firmware
  2. Clear Microsoft Teams cache
  3. Uninstall Microsoft Teams

    Emily,

This is not the problem I am having.

The Brio 4K is showing video quality that looks like 360p in the desktop app only. In the webapp, it works perfect and shows at the correct resolution.

It is not a bandwidth issue. I have tested my bandwidth and it’s great. Over 200mbps. The video looks great on Zoom, Discord and even the Windows Camera app.

It is the combination of Teams desktop app and Logitech Brio 4K that shows low quality video. Also for what it’s worth, Windows 10.

This is not feature request. This is a bug. Therefore Help > Give Feedback is not a solution.

Please let me know the next steps to try and fix the issue.

Matthew, maybe I didn't explain it well.

I am saying - Teams desktop app doesn't support video quality over 1080p. This is specifically to the Teams desktop app. Web based is not the same and is not affected by this design fraud. Zoom, discord and Windows Camera are outside of the Teams desktop app, thus not affected by this limitation. Many users have already shared this issue. Here is an example: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsof...

As for bandwidth, this is NOT just about your local bandwidth, but bandwidth from Microsoft's side as well. Also, even if your bandwidth is unlimited, Teams desktop app's video quality is capped at 1080p (this is documented here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteam...)

Are you an admin user? If you are, you can actually go to Teams' admin center to bring up a recent meeting, and review the video resolution for that meeting. You can reference the instruction in this discussion: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsof...

In conclusion, this is an issue that currently has no fix. Maybe you are right, I should have called it a bug. Whether it is bug or feature request, they can be both logged via the Feedback feature. That's really the only thing you can do right now as there's no official fix for this. But as more users log this issue, it will hopefully become important enough for Microsoft product team to find the fix.

And don't shoot the messenger. We are not Microsoft employees.. we are just active and more experienced users. As a user myself, I also hope this is something that can be improved as I use Teams desktop app all the time for work too.

    Hello Florian,

Thank you for your update. I'm glad you were able to reach a resolution - your video looks quite good. Based on the available evidence, I suspect that yours was a hardware-specific solution (i.e. Microsoft decided to provide support for your webcam model).

Unfortunately, I am in the same situation as Matthew. I feel the frustration expressed in his responses, as I too have felt that same frustration. I have the same Logitech Brio 4K webcam, as provided by my employer. The device works great with Zoom and Webex, but looks terrible on Teams.

If you wouldn't mind, could you advise whether you discovered any Teams configuration settings that enabled your improved performance, or was it simply the result of an update?

    Best regards,

    Bob

    Good morning,

    Thank you for these explanations.

    I did another test:

    • A first time, by configuring the "Anker PowerConf C200" camera in Teams,
    • A second time, using the OBS Studio streaming application, as the camera used in Teams. In the OBS application, I selected the same camera: the ANKER C200.

So I asked OBS to create a video stream using the ANKER camera.

    Notice the difference in quality...

When I select the Anker camera in the Teams app :

When I select the "OBS Virtual camera", which uses the ANKER C200 camera :

    Emily,

True, Teams does not support over 1080p. But I know people who use the same webcam on Teams and it works fine for them. Why could I be facing this issue when others are not?

My webcam can do 4k at 30fps, 1080p at 60 fps and 720p at 90fps. Where is the setting in Teams to manually set my camera resolution?

I doubt it's bandwidth on the Microsoft side. I've tried used the webcam on many different days and times. It always works fine for the c922. High-quality picture with no lag.

No worries, I understand you are 3rd party support. And that's fine. I don't want to cause any issues. I just want to get to the bottom of why it works for others and not for me.
