How do I turn off Teams typing indicator?

I do not like that when I type something in a chat and hit enter, my cursor goes back to the typing field. I usually am involved in a conversation, and I usually wait until they respond before I answer. I don't want them to think I am still typing because it's confusing for the other person, so I always have to click out of the typing field. This seems like an unnecessary step.

This thread is a nice example of an AI respondent failing to grasp the conversation. I've had dozens of these while playing with chatGPT.

(Or this is an example of an incompetent support staff. But I'm going with the former.)

Beth, I'm having the same problem, and also looked all over for the setting that doesn't exist. I'm guessing this setting exists somewhere, in some version of the software, probably internal and under development, or fully implemented but not a part of the public version. I hope we get access to this feature as well some day, we the plebeians.

    +1

Please for the love of God turn this feature off completely. I don't *ever* want to see that others are typing. I've sat and stared at these 3 dots move for 3-5 mins at a time before realizing the other party is never going to press enter in a timely fashion.

It's a UX antipattern - you're turning an asynchronous form of communication (where the value lies in it's asynchronous nature) into a false synchronous one which alters the behavior of the users in a negative way. If you can't remove it at least give users the ability to turn off the feature.

Thank you, Jayzar. I thought it would be a simple fix, but I don't see that option. Am I missing something? This is what I see:

    100% agree

I find it to be the most distracting and annoying feature of Teams.
