Controlling settings, permissions, and membership within Teams and channels
Hello Stevc999,
I'm Segunfunmi, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thank you for posting your query in this forum.
Regarding communication in Microsoft Teams, there are two primary ways to interact: chat and channel posts. Let’s break down the differences:
Chat:
Direct chats allow you to send messages to specific individuals or groups. You can find this feature using the chat icon in the left navigation. It’s a quick and informal communication, similar to chatting with someone in a messaging app. You can type a simple “Good Morning” or any other message without creating a formal post.
Channel Posts:
Channel posts are specific to Teams channels. They allow you to communicate with all members of a particular channel.
You’ll find channel posts within the Teams icon in the left navigation. When you post on a channel, your message is visible to everyone. Unlike chat, channel posts have a title and content structure, which makes them more suitable for organized discussions, announcements, and knowledge sharing.
So, if you want to greet everyone with a simple “Good Morning,” you can use the chat feature without creating a formal post. However, remember that channel posts serve a different purpose—they’re great for team/project-related discussions and sharing valuable insights transparently.
Remember, it’s essential to balance quick chats and more structured channel posts to ensure effective collaboration within your team!
Kind regards, Segunfunmi.
