Turn an existing post into an announcement

I posted a post on the Posts tab but I want to add a heading with a colored background, like an announcement has. Is it possible to add a heading and background to a post, or is it possible to change a post into an announcement if I've already posted it as a post?

Thanks for your help!

    Hello Nicole_M_P,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Teams doesn't allow you to directly convert a regular post into an announcement or edit a post to add an announcement-style heading with a colored background after it has been posted. However, there is a workaround to achieve your goal:

Create a New Announcement: You'll need to create a new post as an announcement. To do this, go to the team and channel where you want to post. At the bottom where you type your message, you'll see a format button (it looks like an A with a paintbrush). Click on it to open the formatting options.

Choose 'Announcement': In the formatting toolbar, you'll find an option to make your post an announcement. This will allow you to add a headline and a colored background.

Copy Your Original Post: You can then copy the text from your original post and paste it into the new announcement.

Delete or Reference the Old Post: If the original post is no longer needed, you can delete it to avoid confusion. Alternatively, you can edit the original post to mention that an updated announcement has been posted.

Post Your Announcement: Once you have your announcement ready, go ahead and post it.

This method allows you to effectively "convert" your post into an announcement, even if it's not a direct conversion. It's a good practice to plan for announcements in advance, but I understand that sometimes the need for an announcement becomes clear only after a regular post has been made.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards, Ibhadighi

    This is a deprecated feature.

It used to work until recently.

The workaround you described above might be helpful in some cased.

In reality - you don't want to delete a post with all its comments just to put a same announcment.

That's disappointing. Thank you for your help.

Thanks so much, lbhadighi. I thought that might be the case. I just needed your confirmation before copying the original post to a new announcement and "deleting" the original one. I'm setting up a new Team and I was hoping not to start with a "this message is deleted" post.

Do you know if there is an option in the new version of Teams to move deleted posts elsewhere or at least filter the list so only the ones that weren't deleted will be visible?

    Thanks again for your help.
