My Teams app isn't running properly. I could only use it once, after the second time I opened the application a sign appeared that said "Your admin has restricted access to the new Teams" "Please switch back to classic Teams."

Specification:

  • Mac OS Catalina
  • version 10.15.7 (19H2026)

What should I do?

Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Teams for education | Sign up and Sign in | Install and update

This has nothing to do with "Admin" and settings in an enterprise. This has EVERYTHING to do with Microsoft putting out a new product that is not working properly. Please stop telling people how to band-aid it. These fixes being suggested will ultimately either break other products, or create a hole in security. Pass this problem UP the chain and get it fixed, within the product itself. You're wasting precious time for sys admin who could be working on more important things. Our users at my company are losing their minds, blaming US because of the ambiguous error message! FIX IT, Microsoft! Please!

As the actual admin of our tenancy, with unrestricted access and the global (And only) policy is to default to the new version, I can say its not admin that's restricting this

I have exactly the same issue

I can log in ONCE, then as soon as you reboot or log out, the next time its saying Admin Has Restricted Access

We (EDU) are having the same issue here on our test Macs. We also have teams being pushed via MDM (Addigy) with no restrictions placed on the installation. We have encountered this on multiple test machines. What we are encountering is...

    1. Classic has been in use.
    2. New Teams is installed and allows login and opens (once).
    3. The next time New Teams is launched it says Admin has restricted it, use classic instead.
    4. Classic Teams launches fine.
    5. Another attempt to launch New Teams after closing Classic results in New Teams opening fine.
    6. Cycle repeats itself (New Teams, once closed, won't work until Classic has been used).

We aren't using Macs, all Windows devices, mix of Win 10 and 11
But the Switch back on that screen did work for us, Logout however didn't

Uninstall NewTeams and Reinstall it, and it works again.... ONCE
then its back to Your admin has restricted access to the new Teams

I am having the same issue as Kael. I opened New teams once (which means I have permission). This was enabled for my entire team. Another Mac is not seeing this issue as well as a Windows system (new Teams is running on both). I might have deferred back to using classic Teams when I was prompted, but now it will not let me switch back. I have the correct license.
