Why can't I blur my webcam background on the new teams?

I have always been able to blur my webcam background on the old teams (I still can) but just tried on the new teams and it's not working. I click on the option and tick it but nothing happens. It's the same if trying to apply any of the backgrounds & filters etc. My company has no restrictions on this, and as mentioned, it still works in the old teams app.

    This did actually work just fine in Linux via Firefox for about 4 weeks and suddenly stopped working a couple days ago.

    Hello,

    I experienced the same issue. The blur effect worked with the old Teams but not the new Teams. In the new Teams, the blur option was still available and selected, but not applied to the video. Note I used the "Make a test call" function in the device settings to test this function.

    In my case, I noticed that the camera option reported in the new Teams settings was also incorrect. It reported that my laptop's integrated camera was being used, but the feed shown was from my USB camera. When I changed the selected camera in the dropdown it began working again (the blur was applied correctly). So it might be worth trying to toggle your selected camera and see if that works around the bug temporarily.

    Thanks,

    Carl

    Same here, blur stopped working some time around June - it was working for ages (Ubuntu with Firefox stable).

    Same here Chrome Version 126.0.6478.61 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Linux Ubuntu. Since a couple of weeks, the blur or any background options do not apply anymore. They are still there and I can click them, it puts the checkmark, but then comes a message " could not apply background".

    I'm signed into Teams. Google meetings work well.

    Very annoying this behavior.

    Hello Rebecca,

    My name is Jackson and thank you for your question.

    I sincerely apologize for the issue you experience with your Teams, I am a user myself and do not work for Microsoft so I understand how frustrating this is.

    We have the option to blur background before and during a meeting in Teams, If you don't see this option in the menu, the feature might not be available on your device. See steps to blur your Teams meeting back ground in the link;

    https://support.microsoft.com/office/f77a2381-443a-499d-825e-509a140f4780

    The blur background effects won’t be available if you’re using Teams through optimized virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) or if you’re a Linux user. If you have been using these feature of Teams before on your device but not anymore then its possible your computer/device is outdated. In that case, you may be able to access the blurring feature after updating your device/software.

    Warm regards,

    Jackson E.
