I am trying to create a Poll in Teams to obtain information from attendees before a meeting i am hosting. Microsoft documentation and help files say I can use Forms/Polls for this in Teams chat but when i create a Poll in Teams chat, the only option i get is to run a MULTIPLE CHOICE poll. That is no good for me, I would like to ask open questions and receive text responses. How do I set up a poll like that please?

This doesn’t address the issue. None of the options are for short answers. Closest is word cloud but if everyone will have a different answer I don’t want a word cloud. I want to be able to get short responses not in a word cloud

Hi to anyone with the same question.

A colleague of mine has found the answer.

If you open the calendar invitation in TEAMS, not in Outlook, then add and open the Polls app from within the Teams calendar invitation, the option to choose the type of poll is presented.

    Problem solved :-)

And note, whether I open Forms or Polls app in the Teams chat, the outcome is the same - a multiple choice poll, which is not what I am looking for. Appreciate you trying to help here

    Hello Umar

    Thank you for answering.

Regarding 1, Forms. That is what I am asking about. How do I get to this screen which allows me to choose the type of poll? Your method takes me straight to a multiple choice poll which is not good for me.

    Look fwd to your view

    Thanks

Hi Liam, My name is Umar and I'd be happy to help you out with your question.

Please note: This is a user-to-user community forum. We are users just like you who help others. We are not employees of Microsoft.

To create an open-ended poll in Microsoft Teams, you have a few options:

    1. Using Forms:

Forms now include open-answer questions, allowing you to create polls with text responses. Here’s how you can set it up: Go to the community, group chat, or meeting chat where you want to create the poll. Tap the plus button next to the Type a message field. Select Polls. On the Polls screen, enter your question and options (you can add up to six choices). Save your poll.

    1. Using Polly:

You can use Polly, an app that integrates with Teams, to create open-ended polls.

Follow these steps: Add the Polly app to your Teams meeting using the instructions in this link. Once added, you can create a new poll and choose the open-ended question option. Participants can then provide text responses.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
