Teams is not staying closed after quitting the application

I'm having the weirdest issue with my Teams. This has been happening for a few months now, figured it would get fixed by updates, but still is occurring. For context, I have the option unchecked where Teams keeps running in the background on close. What's been happening is that when I click the close button (X) it closes, but then after about 5-10 seconds it loads back up. The same happens when I go to the system tray, right-click on the app, and select "Quit." Has anyone else been noticing this issue? Or am I just special? It's REALLY starting to get on my nerves. AND....to add....I've uninstalled and reinstalled Teams a couple of times to no avail. What is going on and how can I fix this? Everything I find online (so far) hasn't shown anything about this specific issue.

    Hello Furkaan,

While I appreciate your response, I'm a bit frustrated because everything you've suggested I have already tried, minus reaching out to Microsoft. Also, some of these suggestions don't even match my issue. It's not opening when I start up my computer, it literally will not stay closed after closing/quitting it from the "X", right-clicking it and selecting "Quit Teams", or even doing the same from the task tray icon. I've even gone as far as killing the processes/tasks in Task Manager. It's as if it has a mind of its own and launches itself back up afterward. I just figured that I can't be the only person encountering this issue. I guess I will have to reach out to Microsoft about this.

    Hi Joseph,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. You're not alone! This can be a frustrating quirk with Teams, even though you've unchecked the "keep running in the background" setting. Here are a few things you can try to stop Teams from reopening after closing it:

Double-check Teams Settings: It's worth a second look to make sure the option is truly unchecked. Open Teams, go to your profile picture, click on "Settings" then "General." Verify that "On close, keep the application running" is disabled.

End the Process Completely: Sometimes Teams lingers in the background processes. Closing the window might not fully terminate it. Try this:

Right-click on your taskbar and select "Task Manager" Find "Microsoft Teams" in the list (may be listed as "teams.exe") Right-click on "Microsoft Teams" and select "End task" Disable Automatic Startup: Teams might be set to automatically launch when you start your computer. This could be causing it to reopen after you close it. Here's how to disable it:

Windows: Search for "Startup Apps" and open the settings menu. Find "Microsoft Teams" and toggle it to "Off." Mac: Go to "System Preferences" > "Users & Groups" > Select your user > "Login Items." Find "Microsoft Teams" and click the "-" button to remove it. Clear Teams Cache: Corrupted cache data might be causing the issue. Try clearing Teams cache: There's no built-in way to directly clear Teams cache, but you can try resetting the app which might achieve a similar result. * Windows: Search for "Apps & features" and find "Microsoft Teams." Click on it and select "Advanced options" > "Reset." * Mac: Quit Teams entirely. Delete the following folder: "~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams" (use the Finder's "Go To Folder" feature to navigate there easily).

If none of these solutions work, it might be helpful to report the issue directly to Microsoft. They can investigate further and provide more specific troubleshooting steps. You can report it through the Teams app itself (go to "Help" > "Report a Problem") or through the Microsoft online support channels.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Give back to the Community. Help the next person who has this issue by indicating if this reply solved your problem. Click Yes or No below. Best Regards, Furkaan
