New Teams Chat notifications

In New Teams, individual chats, opened up in separate windows, no longer go orange when a new message arrives. The general Teams icon goes orange for any new thing, but there's no way of knowing if it's signifying there's a new message in a chat without opening them all up and looking, or checking in Activity which is an unnecessary faff. Before, you could hover over the main icon when it went orange, which would bring up thumbnails of chats, and the one in question would be also be orange. I can't find a setting to make it do this again. Any ideas? Or has this very helpful functionality been lost in the update?

I noticed the exact same thing and it's hugely annoying. Such a small "feature" that is quite useful. Why always have to go back to the main Teams window to see which one of the popped-out individual chats has new replies?!?! Talk about going backwards. Start with the same feature set that folks are used to, then add new ones vs taking away existing ones w/o enhancing. I already submitted feedback/request to have it enabled again, but we'll see if it happens or not...

    Hi Sola,

Thanks for your reply. But I'm stuck with New Teams at work and chats are now impossible to use. We regularly have many individual chats open because of our workflow and now there's no way of knowing which of the chats has a new message in it. The left hand nav chat icon shows the number of chats with new messages and the main icon on the taskbar goes orange - but, if the specific popped-out chat icon isn't orange you have to either open each one and look (not very efficient) or go back to the main chat column (which defeats the object of being able to pop out chats into a new window). From what I can see online this is annoying a lot of users - is there any chance of it being changed? Seems unhelpful for a new update to make things worse.

Exact same issue here, and now that my organisation has enforced New Teams with no option to switch back to Teams Classic it's even more of a productivity roadblock.

I'll also add that this is particularly frustrating if you have a document or file open within the app at the time a notification arrives. In Classic Teams you would go immediately to the popped out Chat in question, but now you actually have to leave your document and return to the main screen to find the chat.

    Hi Francesca,

    Thanks for contacting us,

The new Teams does not support the same notification settings as the classic Teams. You can only turn on or off notifications by selecting **Settings and more** at the top of the new Teams, then selecting **Settings > Notifications > Open Windows notifications settings**. This will open the Windows 10 notification settings, where you can choose how to receive notifications from Teams and other apps.

Alternatively, you can switch back to the classic Teams by selecting **Settings and more** at the top of the new Teams, then selecting **Switch to classic Teams**. This will allow you to customize your chat notifications in Teams as before. You can also use the Teams web client to access the classic Teams features.

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

    Regards, Sola
