MTR audio quality has decreased. Bose VB-1 sounds better when connected to laptop than when connected to MTR appliance.

Recently I had a user report poor audio quality in one of our Teams Rooms. The MTR system is a Lenovo/Logitech bundle, with a Bose VB-1 videobar providing audio.

When testing there is noticeably more room echo than I remember, resulting in the far end reporting the meeting participants sounding distant. I verified this by recording the meeting and listening back to the recording. I wouldn't consider the reduction in quality terrible but it's not great.

After updating the MTR appliance and the Bose videobar firmware with no improvement, I decided to connect the videobar directly to my laptop and do a test call. It does appear that the room echo is less when the VB-1 is connected to my device than when connected to the MTR. Is it likely that there is different DSP being applied in the cloud to the MTR, than an end user running the Teams app?

    Hello Joel,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

The difference in audio quality when connecting the Bose VB-1 videobar to your laptop versus the MTR (Microsoft Teams Room) system could be due to several factors:

    1. Different DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Settings: The MTR may have different DSP settings that affect audio processing compared to what your laptop or the cloud service applies. These settings can impact echo cancellation, noise reduction, and overall audio clarity.
    2. MTR Configuration: The MTR system itself may have specific audio settings or limitations that differ from your laptop, affecting the performance of the Bose VB-1.
    3. Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC): The AEC settings on the MTR might not be as effective or might be configured differently than on your laptop.
    4. Teams App vs. MTR Software: The Teams app on your laptop and the software running on the MTR might handle audio processing differently, with the Teams app possibly having more optimized or updated algorithms.
    5. Firmware or Software Issue: Despite updating, there could be a lingering firmware or software issue on the MTR that isn't present on your laptop.

    To address this, you could:

    • Check and adjust the DSP settings on the MTR system.
    • Contact the manufacturer for support on MTR-specific audio configurations.
    • If possible, test with another MTR system to rule out hardware issues.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards, Ibhadighi
