Unable to switch to guest account

I have been invited to another organization as a guest. I click on the link and everything works fine. Except for

  1. With the app, I cannot log in to this guest account except when I first clicked on the link. BUT with web version I can.
  2. I can switch from guest -> personal/organization account but not personal/organization -> guest account. (Meaning in drop down menu I don't see another organization, but if I'm in guest account I can see my own organization there.)
  3. If I'm signed in on the app it can stay signed in. But if I changed the account for once, I cannot change it back to guest again.

Meaning I can only login to my guest account on web and by clicking the link. But I want to have access on all my devices using the app and to be able to switch between accounts freely.

For devices I have an Android phone, a Windows and a Mac. For emails I have tried both my personal and organization account (not the one I'm invited to as a guest). By tried I mean I have asked the admin to add them both as guest. Both times turned out same.

    Dear YJayH3,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Based on your description, I understand that you have a query "Unable to switch to guest account".

It seems like you are experiencing some issues with switching between your guest account and personal/organization account on the Microsoft Teams app, as a guest user in Microsoft Teams, you may encounter some limitations when using the app or web version.

Regarding your first concern, it is possible that there may be a compatibility issue with the app on your device. I suggest checking if your app is up to date and if your device meets the minimum system requirements for the app.

For your second concern, it is normal, once you have switched to a personal or organization account, you will not be able to switch back to your guest account. This means that if you want to access your guest account, you will need to log out of your personal or organization account and then log back in as a guest.

Lastly, for your third concern, If you are signed in to your personal or organization account and then switch to your guest account, you will not be able to change your account back to your personal or organization account. This means that if you want to switch back to your personal or organization account, you will need to log out of your guest account and then log back in to your personal or organization account.

I hope the above information will be helpful. Please feel free to let me know if there are any updates or if I've got you wrong. Glad to assist you. We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation. Thanks for your precious time!

    Sincerely,

    De Paul| Microsoft Community Moderator

    Dear YJayH3,

Many thanks for the response and thank you for sharing your experience and solution with us. It's great to hear that the account switching option is now working for you. As for the issue with non-organization accounts, I meant that once you have switched to a personal or organization account, you will not be able to see and switch back to the guest account.

Thank you for your suggestion on giving Teams admin an organization email for guest access. Basically, when the guest accepts the invitation, you get an account with ...@#EXT--- then you may request the admin to reset the password then allows you login with account, in this way switching between guest and organization will be possible since you will be prompted the guest account while logged out of the organization account.

Thanks in advance for your understanding! Your patience and cooperation will be highly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    De Paul| Microsoft Community Moderator

After a day I checked again and it was solved, the account switching option comes up normally now! I guess it took some time to process the account.

So turns out the switching account problem was with non-organization accounts, in which case switching between personal and organization guest accounts is, I believe, unfeasible for now. I hope Microsoft can recognize this issue.

And for users, I think you should give your Teams admin an organization email (an email that can sign in as MS Teams work or school account) for guest access. This way when asked to sign in you will be able to sign in to the Teams for work or school instead of personal Teams. As of now only in Teams for work or school will you have the option to switch between organizations. Or else you can't sign in except for clicking the link again.

Thank you De Paul for your help anyway!

    1. The app on Mac, Android, and Windows are all up-to-date. Mac (2023) and Windows 11 (2022) devices are all the latest.
    2. All my colleagues can switch between them no problem. What do you mean?
    3. The problem is that I cannot log in as a guest account. What do you input as email??
