When users sign into a team meeting unverified is displaying for some people?

Why and how do we fix this?

Is it too many people signing in for our microsoft licence? or is it the account that users set up were not set up correctly??

Any help to resolve would be great.

Thank you

    Dear Elaine,

Greetings. Thank you for reaching out.

I understand that you are having an issue where some people are showing as unverified in a teams meeting. May I please confirm if these are external users?

If that is the case, the "Unverified" label is usually displayed for all meeting participants who do not have a trusted relationship with the organizer (External users) Or if internal users joined the meeting using the joining link without signing in to Teams (manually entering their name before joining), they will be considered as anonymous users and marked as "Unverified". This is because they didn't sign in to Teams, and the system cannot verify their identity.

Please see the other details about these labels in Microsoft teams:

Organizers and meeting participants in your organization who attend meetings with users outside of their organization - with or without a Microsoft Entra ID - will see the changes in labels that reflect the trust level of the participant with the organizer (External, Unverified, or no label).

    • No label: All participants who are part of the organizer’s organization.
    • External: All participants who are external to the organizer’s organization but have a trusted relationship with the organizer or their organization.
    • Unverified: All other participants will be seen with this label. This will include Microsoft Entra ID users who belong to organizations that do not have an explicit external access setup with the organizer’s organization, Microsoft Account (personal) users, users who are not using any Microsoft ID while joining meetings, and others.

If this is only affecting external users, you may have to inform the external organization to build trust relationship with your organization by configuring external access policy**,**please follow the below doc. You might need to reach out to your Teams/M365 admin to configure these.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Best Regards,

    Ashraf.

For your internal people, one way to test the issue is to have employees open a private browser session and go to https://www.office.com/.  They need to sign into their Microsoft account. Then go to Teams online and join the meeting. If they are still 'unverified' then you know the setup of their account is wonky.

I have this same problem, but it's showing "unverified" on a new, INTERNAL user.

    My colleague is saying below…

I keep signing in but it keeps reverting to my account as a personal account even though it's set up as 'work' and with my FF email.

Can you advise steps to sign in that will pick up User as a business user and also allow option to update their name to account?

    Thank you.

@Elaine -- I had this issue after the latest updates around this same time as your post. I had to uninstall the apps on my desktop and phone to get it to play nice.
