How to un-hide notification content for Microsoft apps

My notifications for both Teams and Outlook are both on a very high privacy setting. They don’t show any information until I enter the app. Here is what my push notifications say:

  • Teams
    • "You have a new message"
    • "There is new activity"
  • Outlook
    • "New Message, Open Outlook to view message"
    • "New Calendar Event [time], Content Hidden" (for calendar reminders)

I work in a large organization, and getting notifications with no information almost constantly makes it very challenging to keep up. Ideally I would like to see information about the sender and a snippet of the content so that I don’t need to open the app each time to see the messages I am receiving.

I am not having the same problem with any apps outside of Teams and Outlook. From what I can tell, my notifications settings should not be causing this, but I am told this is happening on some other phones within the organization.

I would like to include screenshots of the notifications and my notification settings, but I am not able to upload them for some reason.

    Hello Kate P,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your Teams and Outlook notifications. Here are some steps you can try to un-hide the notification content:

    For Microsoft Teams:

    1. In Teams, go to your profile picture at the top left, then select Notifications.
    2. If your notifications are turned off, tap Open settings.
    3. From the Settings app on your mobile device, select Notifications.
    4. Toggle on Allow Notifications.

    For Microsoft Outlook:

    1. Open Outlook and go to Settings.
    2. Under the Mail section, find the Message arrival option.
    3. Here, you can choose how you want your message alerts to appear when you receive a new message.

kindly let me know if you have any further questions. Good luck! 😊

    Best Regards, Shalom

    Hello,

Not yet solved, but my organization has also submitted a query to Microsoft and I think they are working on it.

    Thank you.

    Hi Shalom,

Thank you for your response and willingness to help. Notifications are allowed on both of my apps. I am receiving them, but it is the content inside of them that is hidden.

    Any further advice welcome.

If you've ensured that notifications are allowed for both Microsoft Teams and Outlook, but the content within the notifications is still hidden, there are a few additional steps you can take:

    For Microsoft Teams:

    1. Check Teams Notification Settings:
    • Open the Microsoft Teams app.
    • Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.
    • Select "Settings."
    • Under the "General" section, find and tap on "Notifications."
    • Review the notification settings for different activities (e.g., mentions, replies, messages).
    • Ensure that "Banner and feed" or a similar option is selected for each activity type.
    1. Update Teams App:
    • Make sure you have the latest version of the Teams app installed. Check the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS) for any available updates.

    For Outlook:

    1. Check Outlook Notification Settings:
    • Open the Outlook app.
    • Tap on the menu icon (usually three lines or dots) in the top-left corner.
    • Go to "Settings" or "Gear icon."
    • Select the account for which you want to adjust notifications.
    • Tap "Notifications."
    • Ensure that "Show Preview" or a similar option is enabled.
    1. Update Outlook App:
    • Ensure that you have the latest version of the Outlook app installed. Check the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS) for any available updates.

    Best Regards, Shalom
