How do you change an existing Teams Meeting "chat name" so that it aligns to a Team meeting, when the meeting name has been changed?

We created a meeting invite from a shared email box in outlook, into Microsoft Teams. We now want to change that meeting name and have been able to successfully change the calendar entry, however the existing chat remains the old meeting name and we are unable to edit (no pencil icon). How do you change a name for an existing meeting chat where the organiser is not a real person?

Having the same request but the reply doesn't apply: once the auto-generated chat in the name of that meeting exists, there's no way to rename the chat name. Even if the meeting host "rename" the meeting, which I tried, the old name remains.

    Hello Sim_004o,

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

To change the name of an existing Teams Meeting chat, you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Teams Meeting chat that you want to rename.
    2. Hover over the chat name and click on the three dots that appear.
    3. Select "Edit this chat" from the drop-down menu.
    4. In the "Chat name" field, enter the new name for the chat.
    5. Click "Save" to apply the changes.

If you are unable to see the pencil icon to edit the chat name, it is possible that you do not have the necessary permissions to make changes to the chat. In this case, you may need to use the shared mailbox to edit.

We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Dear Sim_004o and Tzu-Ting Huang-Hoops,

I hope this finds you well.

May I know if you have tried to rename the meeting itself from the Teams calendar? This will in turn rename the meeting chat in the teams chat section. This will however need to send an update to all the invited participants. As the meeting organizer, open your teams calendar >Single Left Click >Click Edit in the pop up) and this will open the meeting details.

Then change the meeting name and send update. (This will send a fresh invite to all attendees).

In the meeting chat, a notification will be posted to show the name change. Example in screenshot below.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Best Regards,

    Ashraf.

Well, this exactly describes my problem - but not the solution!
As those chats stay available after the meeting and can be used for further communication, it makes sense to rename them.
Why is it not possible, @Microsoft???

Thanks for the detailed steps. I followed the steps and works now.

Note: previously I used "Outlook - calendar" to update the meeting name and didn't work. >> The key point is, change the meeting name via "Teams - calendar" :)

I'm having the same issues as others on this thread. I did just as instructed above, changed the name in the invite and sent out an update, but it is still showing a different name than what the meeting should be. The odd part? The meeting itself is still showing as it should, but the chat name is different.
