Mac user issues with New Teams during meetings

I have a Mac user on a MacBook Pro M2 Max, 64 GB Ram, running Mac OS 14.4.1 using New Teams client.  Whenever he's in a Teams meeting, he has serious performance issues...typing unable to keep up with keystrokes, very laggy, etc.  Activity Monitor shows that New Teams is 80-100%+ on the CPU.  We have removed and re-installed, tried quitting other apps, tried clearing cache folders using:
rm -rf ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams

This has given temporary relief for a day or two, but the problem returns.

We've had Apple check the device, and it performs very well except for New Teams.  I'm looking for some direction on a fix or some direction for this issue.  Any ideas?

I am experiencing real issues when doing video calls. Teams is hitting 80+% CPU.

At most other time it's below 1%.

    MacBook M1 Pro 2014 16GB Sonoma.
    New Teams: Version 24165.1403.2944.3123 (24165.1403.2944.3123)

I totally agree! New Teams for Mac has a lot of issues. I have switched to this version of teams several months ago and been experiencing these issues hoping they can get fixed on each Microsoft update, but nothing. Sometimes it gets very annoying while trying to answer a call or joining a meeting. I never experienced a problem with old Classic Teams for Mac.

PS: I am running an M1 Mac Book Pro with 32 GB of RAM over Sonoma OS.

Same issues with a MBP with 6 Core i7 and 32GB RAM.

Using teams and a video conference makes the whole device more or less unusable.

Would be great to get a solution for this.

Thanks for the reply. We attempted the easy stuff like closing other applications and such. We tried the clear Teams cache directions, but I'm wondering if the second command on that page for New Teams is correct. We are not finding that folder. And when we run the command, we get "Operation not permitted".

    tom$ rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2

    rm: /Users/tomb/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2/.com.apple.containermanagerd.metadata.plist: Operation not permitted

    Hi Brian184,

My name is Jackson, thanks for your question.

We sincerely apologize for any issues you may be experiencing with your Teams App. I'm a user and don't work for Microsoft, so I understand how frustrating this can be.

If your computer is running a lot of applications, you may experience issues with sound quality, like lagging or cutting out. If this happens, closing other applications can help and also ensure you have a stable internet connection. and disconnect form any peripheral device and try using Teams again.

You can fix issues in Teams by clearing the Teams cache on your device. follow the steps in the link below to clear your Teams cache for Mac.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/microsoftteams/troubleshoot/teams-administration/clear-teams-cache

Also, if you use the Teams desktop you can try the web version as a workaround to see if it works well on the web. Open a web browser (Chrome/Edge) and go to https://teams.microsoft.com/.

    After all the above steps if the issue persist you can give this feedback to the developer Teams using the feedback steps in the link;

    Warm regards

    Jackson E.
