Having the same issue here as of March 20, 2024. Multiple users are reporting that Teams comes into focus or un-minimizes whenever a Microsoft 365 Office application (Word, Excel) is opened. These are installed desktop client applications- not the web versions. This happens with New Teams. Some users have Windows10 and some have Windows11. The devices are a mix of Dell laptops and desktops.
Things we have tried:
- Clearing New Teams cache (C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe)
- Run Windows Update until no more updates available (includes multiple computer restarts)
- From Settings>Apps & features- Used both the "Repair" and "Reset" features on New Teams
- Uninstall/reinstall New Teams
- sfc /scannow
There is no option in New Teams to "Register Teams as the chat app for Office"- so we can't disable this feature.
None of these steps have prevented New Teams from coming into focus or un-minimizing
