Application: Microsoft Teams (work or school)

Problem:

  • New Teams breaks whenever minimized, alt-tab, and Win+d.
    • Only applies to "call" window.
  • Call audio and presentation from others are not affected.
    • Entire Teams application UI freezes (call window and main window) except for minimize, maximize, and close button on the top right corner.
    • Third unknown window is created when problem occurs. (Only occurs sometimes)

Troubleshoot attempts:

  • Cleared cache; deleted "MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe" folder.
  • Reinstalled New Teams
  • Restarted computer

Hey! My name is David and I’m here to help

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with the new Teams application, specifically with the call window freezing when you minimize, alt-tab, or use Win+d. That can be really frustrating, especially when you're trying to multitask.

You've already tried some troubleshooting steps like clearing the cache, reinstalling Teams, and restarting your computer. Those are great initial steps to take. Since you're on Windows 11, it's possible that there may be some compatibility issues with the new Teams app and your operating system version.

To further troubleshoot this, you could try updating your Windows 11 to the latest version, as well as checking for any available updates for the Teams app itself. Sometimes, updates can address known issues and improve compatibility.

Let's try one more thing. Have you tried running Teams in compatibility mode? Sometimes, running an application in compatibility mode can resolve compatibility issues with the operating system.

To do this, right-click on the Teams application icon and select "Properties." In the Properties window, go to the "Compatibility" tab. Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select an older version of Windows from the drop-down menu. Apply the changes and try running Teams again to see if the issue persists.

If that doesn't work, you could also try running Teams as an administrator. Right-click on the Teams application icon and select "Run as administrator" to see if that makes a difference.

I hope this helps, please leave positive feedback.

Thanks David for giving me troubleshooting solutions.

Apparently the issue (from what I observe) was with New Teams PIP (picture in picture) functionality when minimizing calls. Probably a permission issue.

Launching the application as an administrator solves the issue.

Just some more information in-case someone finds this thread:

    • "Compatibility mode" fix doesn't work for me.
    • Windows is updated to the latest version, except for one broken update which is the "Hewlett-Packard - USB - 12/12/2014 12:00:00 AM - 35.0.56.52825"
      • Solutions from Microsoft forums mostly say to hide it. I don't mind it.
    • The application file in new teams is hidden deep in the "ProgramFiles" Directory.
      • C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\MSTeams_24060.2623.2790.8046_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe"
      • Note: MS_Teams'version number' file name might be different over time. (I think)
      • Tick the "Run this program as an administrator" in the "Compatibility" tab. You cannot do this with a Shortcut.

Thanks for those that replied to my question!

This issue only appears in the New Teams application.

Teams in web would have periodic short disconnects and reconnects in some intervals

(it flashes the "disconnected and attempts to reconnect" screen briefly).

I have found issues described similarly to mine on this post, but it only occurs in MacOS.

The posts temporary workaround does not work for me ("Otherwise, I have to minimize and maximize the window until it eventually works".), as I have already tried. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/frozen-buttons-my-teams-desktop-app-not-working/c3eae85d-a11b-4276-9581-91f7340181cc

Unfortunately, I do not have any other devices to test this.
