Share folders AND subfolders

Hi

I have set up a parent folder in Teams with two other people who can have access - "K" is within my organisation, "L" is not. L contributes files that K needs to view and edit.

L uploaded his files into the parent folder within sub-folders, but K cannot access anything within these subfolders, and I have to individually share each of these with K to allow her access.

Is there a way to allow L and K to edit the whole parent folder contents?

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for posting on the forum today. I’m Bambi, a user like you and I’ll be happy to assist you.

To allow both “L” and “K” to edit the entire contents of a parent folder in Teams, including its subfolders, you can follow these steps:

    1. Stop Inheriting Permissions: Go to OneDrive Online, select the parent folder, and navigate to Share > Manage Access > Advanced. Here, you’ll find an option to Stop Inheriting Permissions.
    2. Grant Permission: After stopping the inheritance, you can Grant Permission to “L” and “K”. You’ll need to type their user accounts and share the parent folder with them.
    3. Set Unique Permissions: If you need to set unique permissions for certain subfolders, you can do so by selecting the subfolder and managing access similarly. You can remove or add specific users to each subfolder as needed.

By following these steps, you should be able to set up a structure where “L” can upload files and “K” can access and edit them without having to share each subfolder individually.

I pulled these steps from these threads: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/restrict-external-users-access-to-sub-folder-of-a/6b525425-867a-4560-acac-d7d7fe1cd9d7

Remember, these settings are controlled by your SharePoint and Teams admin settings, so make sure you have the necessary permissions to make these changes.

I hope this information helps. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.

    Best Regards, Bambi
