Teams as a Service (TaaS)?

I am a consultant that has spent many years developing systems and process in platforms such as AirTable, Canvas, OAKS, Trello, Google Classrooms, etc. I frequently deploy pre-configured tools such as Excel templates, ppt slideshow for training, policies and procedures via Word, etc. after customizing the content to fit our clients’ needs.

Is there a means for creating and cloning/copying pre-configured Microsoft Teams or Microsoft Class Teams from our instance of 365 to a client’s instance of 365? If so, how can I learn more about this?

Best regards,

Professor James Thompson

    Dear JTinCharleston,

Good morning! Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Yes, you can create and clone pre-configured Microsoft Teams or Microsoft Class Teams from your instance of Microsoft 365 to a client’s instance. Microsoft Teams cloning is a native feature that allows users to create new Teams based on existing Teams. This can help your users or IT team replicate the desired “best practice” settings from one Team to others. Teams cloning transfers the member permission settings configured by the Team Owner as well as the channel, tab, and applications of the original Team. However, tabs and connectors need to be reconfigured.

Microsoft Teams allows you to clone an existing team. This includes copying channels, tabs, settings, and apps. However, you will need to reconfigure tabs and connectors, and it doesn’t transfer content like messages and files. To clone a team:

    • Go to the Teams app.
    • Select Teams on the left sidebar.
    • Click on Join or create a team at the bottom.
    • Choose Create a team and then Create from….
    • Select From an existing team and choose the team you want to clone.
    • Follow the prompts to name your new team and select the components to copy.

For detailed guidance, you can refer to the Microsoft Support page on creating a team from an existing team.
