Hi Julia Green,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.
This issue may be related to one or more of the following:
- Badge Notifications Missing in New Teams: Many users have reported that the new Teams client does not consistently show badge notifications for certain apps, including Approvals. This appears to be a known limitation or bug in the new Teams experience.
- System Tray vs. Taskbar: Some users noted that badge notifications only appear when Teams is minimized to the taskbar, not when it's running in the system tray.
- Notification Settings Confusion: Even with "Activity and Banner" enabled, badge icons may not appear for Approvals, unlike Chat or other core features.
To help resolve this issue, we suggest the following steps:
- Use Classic Teams (if available): If your organization still allows switching back to Classic Teams, badge notifications may work more reliably there.
- Avoid Small Taskbar Icons: One user found that enabling small taskbar buttons in Windows settings can interfere with badge visibility .
- Clear Teams Cache: Sometimes clearing the Teams cache can resolve notification glitches:
- Sign out of Teams.
- Quit Teams completely.
- Navigate to %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and delete the contents.
- Restart Teams.
- Reinstall Teams: Uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of Teams has helped some users restore notification functionality.
