Low and Uncontrollable Audio Volume on Microsoft Teams with AirPods 4

Hello everyone,
I’m experiencing an issue when using my AirPods 4 with Microsoft Teams. When I join meetings or try to play audio within the app, the volume is extremely low and cannot be adjusted either via the Teams app settings or the audio settings on my PC (Windows 11).

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Updated Microsoft Teams to the latest version;
  • Ensured that my AirPods firmware is up to date;
  • Adjusted both system and Teams audio settings;
  • Restarted my PC and AirPods;
  • Followed advice from the Apple community, including disabling the device via Device Manager, updating the audio drivers, and updating my PC’s firmware.

It’s worth noting that other applications that play audio on my Windows 11 system (e.g., Windows Media Player) work perfectly fine and do not have any audio issues with the AirPods.

Despite these steps, the issue persists. Has anyone encountered a similar problem or found a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Marco

    This solution worked for me after trying all the other suggested fixes around the internet: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftTeams/comments/1iflpq7/solution\_to\_microsoft\_teams\_having\_quiet\_audio\_on/

    1. First, make sure your headphones are connected to teams as the output device (I don't know if this is required but it's what I had so I am just repeating my steps to a T)
    2. Next, type in "Sound" on your computer search bar and click on the "Change System Sounds" option
    3. Go to the Recording Tab
    4. Find your headphones under the Recording Tab and double click and DISABLE YOUR DEVICE!
    5. Give it a second and it should go from quiet to loud on your headphones.

    *NOTE: Your device should be selected and enabled on the "Playback" tab

    I had this problem, just discovered that you have to change the volume from the airpod itself, which worked for me. Just put your thumb on the back and swipe up along the front of the airpod stem with your index finger...

    Microsoft just confirmed Airpods 4 is not a supported device. Nicely done. Enjoy your Microsoft service!

    Dear Allen,

    Thank you for your assistance. Following my further details:

    ·  I tried making a call from the browser, but the result is the same. Furthermore, as I already mentioned, the issue occurs only with Teams and not with other apps used on Windows 11. This makes it quite unlikely that the problem lies in general settings and not in the Teams app installed on the client.

    ·  I cleared the cache by deleting all files and folders from %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams. without any improvement

    ·  I confirm that I have tried adjusting the volume both from the app controls and Windows settings, and neither works. However, Windows works normally when I use other apps, such as Windows Media Player.

    ·  I appreciate knowing there is a list of certified devices, but it seems that only one version of wireless headphones has been included; on the contrary, I am trying to make a Bluetooth-connected headset work.

    ·  Finally, let me say that I find it somewhat simplistic to describe AirPods as a third-party not certified device. The same device works perfectly with all other apps on Windows. This clearly indicates a compatibility issue with a single app. In my humble opinion, it would be appropriate to provide certification, by addressing this issue, given the widespread use of these devices, as evidenced by the numerous messages reporting the same problem in this community

    Airpod 4 does not have the ability to change volume by swiping up/down on the stem, unlike previous generations.

    And disabling the microphone is a known workaround for boosting volume, but NOT an actual fix. Most users want to use the microphone as well on a Teams call.

    From everything I've read, seems like the issue is the Airpod bluetooth driver and we are waiting for Microsoft to update that.
