Teams notifications no longer playing sound

Hey everyone! My teams app updated, I want to say yesterday (could have been the day before) and since then the notifications are no longer playing sounds. I've checked the teams settings. Sounds on notifications are enabled. I've checked the device settings, teams is set to use my computer speakers. I've restarted my laptop and still nothing. I saw a handful of posts from a couple of months ago after an update other users reported this. Is this some sort of bug or user error? Is there anywhere else I can check?

I believe this is because the only way to get a sound notification of a chat with the new Teams is to enable the "Show in Banner" setting under Chat message notification. This is a known change Microsoft implemented and there are several email chains from people upset because in order to get the notification sound for a chat, you also need to have it display in the banner.

Try this and see if your sound for chat notifications reappear. My guess is they will but so will the banner.

Go to Settings -> Notifications and activity -> Chats and Channels -> Chat message notification -> select Show in banner from the dropdown.

I agree with others speaking up in the forum. Microsoft - please bring back the ability to have a sound notification for a chat without the banner notification. The banners are disruptive and take up space on the screen every time they pop up.

I have the same issue. I've tried everything. Calls come in, but no notifications. I only see the little red bubble over the TEAMS icon. I miss a lot o notifications because of this.

I am having the same issue. Im using the desktop app version of Teams, i tried troubleshooting from advisors on other posts and this one but no results yet. Audio is just fine on calls/meetings, testing the different sounds in the settings menu, and test call but when a notification comes through i only see the blue panel on the corner of my screen with no sound accompanying it. Double and triple checked that all the notification options have sound enabled as well and restarted the teams app and my computer multiple times

    Hello April L,

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community. We will be happy to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing with Teams notifications. This could be due to a bug in the recent update.

In order to narrow down the problem for a better understanding of the situation, I may ask questions as follows. Thank you very much for your cooperation and time.

Check system sound settings: Verify that the sound settings on your computer are properly configured. Make sure the volume is turned up, and the sound is not muted or set to a very low level.

Check the notification settings in Teams: Open Teams and go to your notification settings. Ensure that the "Play a sound" option is enabled for the specific notification types you want to receive sound alerts for. You can access these settings by clicking on your profile picture, selecting "Settings," and then navigating to the "Notifications" section.

Test with different sound notifications: Try changing the sound notification to a different option within Teams to see if the issue lies with a specific sound file. If you can hear sound with a different notification, it suggests that the original sound file might be corrupted or incompatible.

Reinstall Teams: Uninstall Teams from your computer completely and then reinstall it. This process can help resolve any potential software issues or conflicts that may be causing the problem.

Check your operating system sound settings: Ensure that the system sound settings on your computer are configured correctly. Make sure the default sound device is selected and that sound notifications are enabled.

Check for audio driver updates: Update your computer's audio drivers to the latest version. Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can sometimes cause sound-related issues.

Test with a different account or device: To further isolate the issue, try logging into Teams with a different account on the same computer or using Teams on a different device altogether. This will help determine if the problem is account-specific or related to the device.

Note : if you are using personal teams or teams free let me know i will move the issue to the dedicated team.

Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your help.

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely
