High CPU usage on Macbook Pro Intel Chip

I have very high CPU usage from new Teams (work and School). I have an Intel chip Macbook Pro with 16GB RAM and 256GB Disk which is more than enough for any task for me. I never heard my fan running and rarely saw the Mac to become warm with teams using 70% of the CPU. But 15 minutes of teams and my PC is hot. I don't have any similar issues with Zoom or Google Meet and also I thought that this issue might be because of only 20 GB of storage space left I visited the service centre and got my Mackbook pro flushed and the OS reinstalled afresh. After the flush 2 days, it worked properly and on the third day again the same issue

What do teams do there to cause such CPU usage?

Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Teams for business | Meetings and calls | Screen sharing

    Hi,

I am having the same issue with my MacBook Pro i9 2019 32Gb 2TB, MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1.

    Teams Version 24295.606.3238.6194

CPU spikes on all cores when Teams have video streams coming through. Teams does not use the GPU. I can see kernel_task system process gets very high and Teams app becomes unusable.

Has anyone found a solution for this issue? This is very frustrating conduct business.

    Hi,

having the same issues. Mac, 27", 20,1: MacOS Seqouia 15.1.1 (24B91)
    Teams Version 24295.606.3238.6194.

The mentioned workaround does not work.

Unbelievable, that all other tools for video conferencing don't fool like this and Microsoft ist not able to deliver a valid solution by now.

adequate sharing in conferencing ist not possible. this, when you work in home office and have 4-6 sessions per day.

if microsoft wants to investigate more I am willing to support.

    kind regards

    Andreas

Hello everyone... I have the same problem here on an 2017 5k iMac.

Teams says that is using hardware encoding but opening task monitor or Intel Power Gadget you can see that the CPU is working really hard.

Also, looking at the task monitor you can see that Teams is not using the GPU in my iMac.

I'm using teams 24231.509.3122.5539 (24231.509.3122.5539), and cleared the teams cache twice

On other video conferencing platforms you can see those apps using the GPU or giving much less trouble to the CPU.

That is a lot of heat and power that goes away just in video conferencing.

I would like to add that I'm experiencing the same problem on a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro when I use screen sharing. But my Teams is running in the browser (Google Chrome, latest version). So clearing the application cache wouldn't help. It has clearly something to do with the screen sharing.

    Hi,

Did anyone found the fix for this issue.

We have user facing High CPU usage issue with teams call and screen sharing when connected with External Monitor. User is using macbook pro 2019 model and New teams with latest version. Tried removing teams cache and reinstalled teams application but having the same issue.

Without external monitor there is no high CPU Usage.
