Everytime I try to assign a on-prem group to the Teams Phone Standard license I received the error "One or more errors occured. Please reveiew the results below". The only other information that is displayed is that "There was an error assigning licenses to License - Temas Phone Standard group. Please try again". Initially I thought the issue was that I was using a group that had members already but after I removed all Users the same issue occured.

There has to be somewhere I can get more detailed logs to try and troubleshoot this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    @Kyle, I fixed the problem..
I found out that you cannot assign Teams Phone Standard license without having the group already assigned a MS License (Basic, Standard, Premium or E3).

Meaning, to assign the license to a group, the order should be like that to assign a license to the group:

    1. Assign a Microsoft license (Basic, Standard, Premium... etc)
    2. Assgin a MS Teams Phone Standard.
    3. Assign a Domestic Calling Plan.
    4. Assign a Communication Credits.

This is the only way it will work... I was stuck for 2 weeks with no help from Microsoft.

And to UNASSIGN a license fron the group, then you have to go backwards from 4 to 1.

Same issue in our org. I was able to assign a group to the Intune License but receive an error with no helpful information for the Microsoft Teams Phone Standard license. Hoping I can avoid a lengthy troubleshooting call with Microsoft.

In order to assign this license with a group, you must put the same group in a E1 or E3 License (in our case)

This does not work for us so we will be assigning manually. Not everyone who needs teams calling in our org has the same license. (e1/e3)

I managed to assign this license... Had to assign an Office 356 E5 with the "Microsoft Teams" (only) Plan enabled. Worked with Microsoft 365 E5 (again, with the "Microsoft Teams" Plan) as well

Therefor, the "Teams Phone Standard" (Microsoft Teams Phone Standard) add-on License must have an hidden "dependency" on another license / Microsoft Teams? Lines up with other answers from before...

Really nice (NOT!) that the action otherwise tells you nothing but "There was an error assigning licenses to <...> Please try again".

    Dear Kyle G. Russell,

    Greetings!
Thanks for reaching out to this community.

Based on your description, I understand your issue with assigning Teams Phone Standard license to a on-prem group.

According to Assign or unassign licenses to a group in the Microsoft 365 admin center - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn, after you assign licenses to a group, you should check to make sure that the licenses were successfully assigned. The Groups tab on the License details page shows the status of the task for each group you assigned licenses to. You can use this page to find groups that have errors that must be resolved. For more information, see Find users with license errors in the group.

    1. In the admin center, go to the Billing > Licenses page, and select the product that you assigned the group to.
    2. On the Licenses details page, select the Groups tab. The Status column shows the license assignment status for each group. The following list describes the group statuses:
      • All licenses assigned: The licenses were successfully assigned to every person in the group.
      • In progress: The licenses are still being assigned to some members of the group.
      • Errors & issues: There was an error in assigning licenses to at least one member of the group.

    Please also note:

    • Group-based licensing doesn't currently support nested groups (groups that contain other groups). If you assign licenses to a nested group, only users in the first-level group are assigned licenses.
    • There are some limitations of group-based licensing in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Additionally, you may also try to use audit logs to monitor group-based licensing activity.
