How to remove auto-emojis?

Hi there,

It's very annoying that emojis get automatically added to my texts. If I type :), then I would like :) to show up. I've tried looking through the settings but I'm not sure this is possible? The Teams mobile app let's me message normally, so it is possible, just not on my computer. The :/ emoji does not feel the same as typing ://// and then the first :/ gets replaced by an emoji so it's extra ugly.

Turning off animations does not halt the behavior. I have not bothered clearing out the cache because there's absolutely no way that this behavior would be tied to the cache. Please update your documentation

In my case, only words with parenthesis around them turn into emojis automatically. For example, I was trying to type "(graduate)" and it would automatically get replaced. Then I tried typing "graduate" without the parenthesis and it did NOT get automatically replaced with the emoji. I wanted the parenthesis in my case, so I had to first type the word "graduate" and then place the parenthesis after--not ideal but it worked. Microsoft Teams should definitely fix this.

In your case with emoticons using text, you can first type ": )" with a space in between, then go back and erase the space.

How do you stop this behavior on a Mac. If I try to type an abbreviation inside parentheses Teams will change my abbreviation into an emoji. I try using escape to close the menu but I can't type anything after the parenthesis it changes to the emoji. For a professional application the default should be to avoid injecting emoji into a business conversation.

I want to add myself to a people reporting this problem.

It's ok to have a way to put emojis by typing specific codes which then automatically turn to emojis instead of having to reach for a mouse and then finding, pointing and clicking on emoji to choose it; but there should also be a quick and easy way to cancel this automation in case one doesn't need it.

My current case is that I wanted to write (Win10) and was pretty annoyed when realizing I can't get rid of that annoying little green dinosaur :)

Some efficient ways to achieve this could be by using ' CTRL + Z ' like Tyler ABLung wrote in previous post, or that emoji pops as a suggestion which can be chosen by hitting ' Enter ', i.e. if ' Enter ' is not hit then text (emoji code) is not converted to emoji and we continue to type without interruption.

I could do that, but it's much easier to just type :) and then when it auto converts I just hit ctrl+z to undo the auto conversion, and is also less reliant on me remembering the non-intuitive behavior
