It happened to me quite a lot of times that I go to the bathroom and teams switches to away, but when I come back and continue working, teams remains in "away" mode and does not switch back.
The only way to get it to switch back to available, is to click Teams on the taskbar do bring it in focus, otherwise, it just remains away, even though I'm working (not having teams actively focused doesn't mean you're away / not working!!!).
I've manually dragged teams from the hidden taskbar icons to the actively displayed ones, just for this purpose, so I can look at it from time to time to see if for some reason I'm showing up as away, but even then, sometimes I go without noticing and show up as away for up to half an hour or sometimes even an hour (when I don't need to use teams and when I'm really caught up in my work).
This is really bad, especially since a lot of us work from home. It paints a bad image to our managers and also to colleagues that might think we're actually away, "slacking off".
As can be seen above from the yellow color of the circle, teams is still showing me away (confirmed with colleagues that it's not just a visual glitch on my side, but this is how other people see me also when this happens).
This behaviour only started happening since the "NEW" teams client was deployed in our company. I don't think the classic one had this issue.
Also, I'm not the only one noticing this behaviour since the "NEW" client. Other colleagues have complained about this also.

I've tried all of these fixes, and my Teams on Mac is stuck on away. Also tried rebooting.
This actually caused a problem for me at work. Just wanted to see if there is any movement on this, because this actually impacts people's jobs and the ability to communicate. It's been 3 months. When you work from home and people never see your status change, it's weird.
You could, at the very least, provide an update on the progress or timeline for the fix. I tried everything you said and even had the IT team waste their time looking at it.
My teams just started this today and nothing is working to change it. I cant even force a new status.
My team is experiencing this issue today as well. Cleared the cache, signed out of all devices, reset status, etc. etc. etc. Did all the tricks we could find and still showing as away. Switching to Slack for the day.
