Additional meeting and call-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Dear Justin,
Good day! Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Support Community and sharing your experience. I understand how disruptive spam calls can be, especially when they interfere with your work. I’m here to help you resolve this issue and make your Teams experience more secure and productive.
Below are step-by-step instructions to block external and unwanted calls in Microsoft Teams:
1. Block External Calls via Teams Admin Center
If you have admin access or can contact your IT administrator, you can disable external calling features:
- Sign in to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center.
- Navigate to Users > External Access.
- Turn off the following options:
- “Users can communicate with Teams users whose accounts are not managed by an organization.”
- “Users can communicate with Skype for Business and Teams users in other organizations.”
This will prevent calls from users outside your organization.
2. Block Specific Numbers from Your Call History
You can block individual numbers directly from your Teams client:
- Open Microsoft Teams.
- Go to Calls > History.
- Click the three dots next to the unwanted number.
- Select Block.
Blocked numbers will no longer be able to reach you.
3. Manage Blocked Contacts
To review or update your blocked list:
- In Teams, click your profile picture > Settings.
- Select Privacy.
- Click Edit blocked contacts to manage your list.
4. Block Calls with No Caller ID
To avoid anonymous spam calls:
- Go to Settings > Privacy.
- Enable the option to block calls with no caller ID.
5. Forward All Calls to Voicemail (Optional)
If spam calls persist, you can temporarily forward all calls to voicemail:
- Go to Settings > Calls.
- Under Call answering rules, choose Forward my calls.
- Select Voicemail.
6. Request a New Number (If Needed)
If your current number is being heavily targeted, you may request a new number through your IT support team.
If you’re not an admin, I recommend sharing this email with your IT department so they can apply the necessary changes at the organization level.
I truly appreciate your patience and feedback. Our goal is to ensure you have a safe and efficient experience with Microsoft Teams. If you need further assistance or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this message.
Warm regards,
