Speakers have no sound in Teams (ONLY Teams)

I have tried everything, and I have boiled the issue down to Teams. A user has been having issue when on Teams they cannot hear anyone. No matter what they do there is no sound. Thier laptop speakers work perfectly fine in 10 different applications (Google Meet, Zoom, Chrome, Firefox...) Teams is the ONLY application that can't seem to use the speakers. I have tried reinstalling the audio driver from both Dell and form the manufacture with no change. I have tried removing all other sound devices then it, same issue. I have tried making it the default communication device, same issue. I have tried using headphones plugged into the 3.5mm jack, same issue. The only thing I can boil it down to is Teams. I have no idea what Teams does to audio, but this is not the first time it's been a Teams issue. I have a pair of Jaybird Vista Bluetooth headphones, and they cause teams to bluescreen. Been using them for 3+ years no issues on 3 different laptops. We move to Teams, bluescreens every day. Stop using them low and behold the bluescreens stop happening. Call MS support and I get told to use another pair there is obviously something wrong with mine (the pair that has been working perfect for 3+ years) I also tried them on a new machine, same issue, blue screen.

Any ideas of what to check next for this audio issue? Users can't do any meetings because they can't hear anyone. They have to use their phone to join meetings with audio which is really annoying for the user.

Yes, same here, the call to someone on Teams you would hear the ring but as soon as the call picked up, no audio. Actually, there was a little audio, but it was really, really low and almost not there and garbled

I THINK I have finally figured out this issue for my user. I have no idea if it was the 70 different things and then this option that fixed it but this is what finally fixed it for my user:

    • I went into the control panel (NOT SETTINGS, click start, type in Control Pannel)
    • Change the view to small icons so that you can see the sound option
    • Open the Sound item
    • Select your laptop's internal speaker and select properties
    • On the Advanced Tab look for an option called Signal Enhancement
    • Disable this option
    • Also go to the sound mixer and make sure Teams app is turned up

This is what worked for my users but again I changed so many things before this so I am not sure if it was a combination of this and something else. I also went into Teams sound settings and turned off all audio stuff like Noise suppression, again not sure if it has anything to do with it!

Steve - the response from MS seems to focus on your headphones. I am having the same issue, but with my laptop speakers (the first problem you mention in your post). Every other app works through my speakers - in fact, Teams "pings" from the chat and "ringing" when calling works - but once I am on a call/meeting, I cannot hear the other parties through my speakers, but they hear me. My company's tech support did everything with drivers, re-installing Teams, etc. No luck. I am stuck using my phone for all Teams calls now.

EDIT: My speakers work through the Teams web browser, but not the app.

I have also been seeing users with this issue as well, all on Windows 11 devices, starting just a week or two ago. I've yet to find a fix so I've been directing them to the web app in the interim.

We have tested today number of 5450 laptops. Issue is related to drivers updated on 18/12/2024 (via DCU):

New driiver installation via DCU on the 5450: Realtek driver: 6.0.9706.2, A07.

Rollback to version: 6.0.9635.1, A02 solves the problem.

We have reported to Dell. Our global support TAM confirmed that they are receiving reports from other customers.

Of course workaround given by Steve works too. We have found good help on the Dell Community forum. Thanks!

Seems that certified for Teams has a different meaning. Change freeze means also nothing to Dell ;)
