Teams New on Mac share screen problem

Anonymous

I have a user with a Mac.

She can use Team-New desktop app but has a weird issue: she can share a window , the share button is showing, she has the window option but NOT not the whole SCREEN option. See screenshot.

I tried to clear the cache, to reinstall the app...no way, again the same problem

Here's the work-around that solved my problems. You will need to re-enable screen record for "new" teams after the script runs. On an Intel Mac, I was then able to share immediately after restarting "new" teams. A colleague on a silicon Mac had to reboot.

    sudo -u "$currentUser" tccutil reset ScreenCapture com.microsoft.teams2

You may need to tweak sudo -u to meet your specific needs. For example, $currentUser is not a typical environment variable.

Word also has it that Microsoft is aware of this issue (related to macOS API usage) and has not yet issued a fix.

You are not alone. I too have had this problem throughout the transition of "classic" to "new" teams and now with classic no longer available, I have no reasonable means available to me to share content within the Teams client.

Sending me to the web client is NOT a viable alternative.

I have also checked, double checked, and triple checked my MacOS system privacy settings to no avail..

Now, as of 1st July 2024, classic teams is gone... so the only workaround is the web.... is there someone working on this problem?

Thanks for your answer, as permissions are all granted you are basically saying there's no way at the moment to overcome this issue on Teams New and the user must rely on Teams Classic or on the web version...

OK, good to know, at least I can stop searching for a good solution on teams new for desktop.

    Hi Nicola,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for the inconveniences,

Here are a few possible solutions that you can try:

    • Make sure that Teams New has the permission to access Screen Recording and Accessibility in the System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab. You may need to unlock the padlock icon and enter your admin password to make changes.
    • If you have already granted the permission, you may need to restart your Mac or quit and relaunch Teams New for the changes to take effect.
    • If the issue persists, you may try to switch back to the classic Teams app by turning off the New Teams toggle at the top of Teams or in the Settings and more menu. The New Teams app is still in a preview state and may not have all the features and functionalities of the classic app.
    • Alternatively, you may use the web version of Teams in your browser, which may not have the same screen sharing issue as the app. However, you may need to install a browser extension to enable screen sharing.

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

    Regards, Sola
