How to simultaneously open organization account and organization (Guest) account in MS Teams?

I have recently shifted to MS teams from Skype and trying to figure out accounts situation. I have a personal teams account which has data of my old skype data, with that personal account I am also invited to an organization as a guest. While my organization has made a work account for all of us to work together. So my current situation is:

Personal Account

  1. Normal teams with skype data
  2. Other-Organization as Guest

Work Account

  1. My-Organization Account

Now I am currently trying to open 3 window to show all these account details separately in my device, but I am facing issue where I cannot open Other-Organization and My-Organization accounts together. When I try to open Other-Organization from my Personal Account profile (which is open in another window) it opens it in the window of My-Organization instead of opening a new window or making my Personal Account profile as the window for Other-Organization. I just want 3 of them to open in windows simultaneously. Or at least allow converting my Personal Account profile to Other-Organization instead of closing My-Organization and opening it there. I am currently using Windows 11 with latest Teams downloaded from Microsoft store. Does anyone have any solution to this?

    I subscribe this topic

Have a similar situation here, on my working pc:

    • a personal Skype account (linked to my hotmail personal account since Skype was bought by MS) that i usually kept online in its app. Now that you're shutting down Skype, i just made the data switch from skype to my "home" Teams, in my PERSONAL hotmail-MS account.
    • a working Teams account, provided me by my employee, with its own mail address, which i use with Teams desktop app

If i go into my top right account icon, in the descending menù i see no option to change between those 2 accounts...of course, because they are not linked.

So, there is no way i can keep BOTH personal (ex Skype) and working accounts open in desktop app?

It works if i keep work account open in the app, and personal one open in browser page.

am I bonded forever to this workaround?

    Dear Reeti_27,

Good day! Thank you for posting to the Microsoft community. We will be happy to help you.

It sounds frustrating to juggle multiple Teams accounts, especially when you're trying to keep them separate! I understand you want to be able to see your Personal account, your "Other-Organization" guest account, and your "My-Organization" work account all open at the same time on your Windows 11 device. It's definitely inconvenient when trying to switch between them causes one to close.

To help me understand your situation a little better and find the best solution for you, could you please clarify a few things?

    1. Regarding your Personal Account: Is this account linked to a personal Microsoft account (like a Hotmail or Outlook.com address) that you used with Skype?
    2. Regarding the "Other-Organization" guest account: When you were invited to this organization as a guest, did you receive an invitation link or were you added using your personal email address?
    3. Regarding the "My-Organization" work account: This sounds like the primary Teams account provided by your current employer. Is this correct?
    4. The behavior you're seeing: When you are in your Personal Account and try to switch to the "Other-Organization" guest account, you mentioned it opens in the window of "My-Organization" instead of a new window. Could you describe the exact steps you're taking to try and open the "Other-Organization" account from your Personal Account? For example, are you clicking on your profile picture and then trying to select the other organization?
    5. Have you tried using the Teams web app in a separate browser window for any of these accounts? This might be a temporary workaround, but it would help me understand if the issue is specific to the desktop application.
    6. Are all three accounts using different email addresses/logins?

Once I have a clearer picture of how you're trying to access each account, I can explore the available options and potential solutions for you. We'll figure out a way to get those three windows open simultaneously!

Thank you for replying, sorry I missed your message and only seen it now.

    1. No, my personal account is made using my company's email which I think is managed inside Gmail.
    2. Yes, I am guest in "Other-Organization", I think I have been added directly but I am not sure as this was over 1.5 years ago. At that time I didn't have my organization's work account so I was added as guest through my personal account.
    3. Yes, my work account was created by my company's IT department recently.
    4. Yes, to open my "Other-Organization" account, I first login using my personal account in Teams desktop and then select Other Organization by clicking on profile picture. And to open "My-Organization" account I login into teams desktop using work account option.
    5. I am not able to open different organization accounts in different tabs of same browser, so I think this issue is consistent to my accounts.
    6. No, all accounts have same emails, although I changed password for my personal account (which is linked with guest in "Other-Organization), so now I have 2 passwords one for my personal account and other for my work account.

Also if it helps, I am seeing option to switch to "Other-Organization" when I am signed in using "My-Organization" account, but when I select it, it just shows error "We have run into issues while switching to the selected account or org."

I am currently able to work by opening 1 account in browser and other 2 in desktop window, but I am also not able to switch from "My-Organization" to "Other-Organization" in my mobile or browser too.
