Microsoft Teams not opening or displaying in taskbar

I have tried to open the Microsoft Teams desktop app, and it will not open or display on the taskbar. I have tried re-setting and clearing the Teams cache, but neither of these actions helped. I also tried re-installing Teams, but the .exe installer file displays the same issue, not showing in the taskbar or opening at all.

This recent bug is reported elsewhere. Teams won't appear if you have "Open application in background" checked in settings. Uncheck this and Teams opens fine on start-up but of course, it's in the foreground. I'm guessing we'll have to wait until Microsoft fix this recent bug.

Reddit thread on this bug: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftTeams/comments/1kid4lu/autostart_new_teams_not_working/ Says it was a bug introduced in 25072 and they hoped it was fixed in 25094 but a further comment says this version (now available) doesn't fix it. I'm about to try it.

    Hello Phoebe,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're experiencing an issue where the Microsoft Teams desktop app does not open or appear in the taskbar. You've already taken several steps, including clearing the cache, reinstalling the application, and attempting to launch the .exe installer, but the problem persists.

To help better understand the situation, could you please confirm the following:

    • Are you seeing any error messages at all when attempting to launch Teams?
    • Does the Teams process appear in Task Manager after attempting to open it?
    • Have there been any recent Windows updates or system changes prior to this issue?

In the meantime, try the following:

    1. End Teams Processes: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift +Esc) and end any Microsoft Teams processes.
    2. Run as Admin: Run Microsoft Teams as an Administrator Privileges (Right click>Run as Adminstrator
    3. Use Web Version: Visit Microsoft Teams for temporary access.

If issue still persist feel free to reach out

    Best wishes,

I can't help directly but I've got a similar problem that has started over the last week or so. I've got Teams configured to load automatically in the background. I turn my PC off overnight (fast start disabled too) and Teams user interface is not appearing on logon. Did the same this morning. I ran Get-Process *teams* and there were two ms-teams processes running. This time, running Teams manually and it appeared in the system tray. However, it's 50:50 whether this happens in which case I have to stop those two processes before Teams will load at all.

So I suspect something has changed with Teams via it's frequent automatic updates.

I've tried the fixes such as reset Teams app etc.
