How do I stop Microsoft Office Professional (Word) 2007 from launching when I open a .Doc in Word 2016?

Whenever I try to open a word doc in Word 2016 (created in Word 2016) using a PC, MS Office 2007 also launches a CONFIGURATION PROCESS page which I have to manually cancel and go to Task Manager to end that app. It's very frustrating.

I do have Word 2007 on the computer since some of my word documents will only launch in 2007.

Any tips on how to prevent this parallel launch?

Thanks!

    Hi @A Rose ,
What version of Windows did you use?
I suggest you try this method to help you:

    1. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller or C:\Program Files\Common Files(x86)\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller
    2. Under the folder and change the file name from SETUP to SETUP001
    3. Win+R to open "RUN" box and enter the command: %windir%\Installer
    4. Delete all files and folders from the Installer folder.

Try this method and let me know if you need further assistance.

You can make use of a registry edit to prevent two versions of Word from "competing" over file associations. See the "Hacking the registry" section in the article at https://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm.
